Talking The Thruxton GE Saga

*****caution if you are offended by the sight of a Thruxton that has creature comforts, go back to Club Cafe and don't read this thread****

Sooo, once upon a time I was looking for a new bike, I was thinking about a Tiger but fell under the siren song of a Thruxton. Before long I was the proud owner of my new yellow thrux, I really loved her and even found her a pretty good commuter, it was like falling in love with a stripper and discovering she liked me and could cook. Then the honeymoon was over. I took a little 200 mile trip up through the NM mountains and back ( if you saw the movie Wild Hogs most of it was filmed along my route). at the mid way fuel stop I could hardly get off the bike and had to stretch a little just to get back on, had to stop twice more to work out cramps on the return leg, and cut about 30 miles off the planned route. I should mention that I am a 50 year old that had to quit MX last year because of arthritis. At this point I could have cut my losses and walked way, found myself a more age appropriate, partner, and moved on. But I could not. First I tried raising the clip ons, better, but not good. Then I found a good deal on some heli bars, ugly but great. then the old man sheepskin pad so my hindquarters, felt more comfy and then some cruiser saddlebags adapted to the mounts from New Bonneville, and viola, the first incarnation of the Thruxton GE (Gentlemen's Express) 1st pic. Then I decided to commute all winter, so heated grips are added and a windscreen. pic2 I melted the first bags so i replaced them with some from JC whitney and they worked a little better. Pic 3 I then decided to give my knees a little more relief so I adapted Buell footpegs. pic 4 In my new job I have to move around a lot to different sites so i needed hard bags that lock, TriumphRat.net to the rescue! I bought some bags that are the perfect size for me and have mounted them. The current incarnation, pic5. Took that same ride today and I had a great time and am not even walking funny! Is she perfect? Closer, for me. Is she done? I am now hankering for the LSL bar kit from New Bonneville, cause it's pretty, a quarter fairing in the right color yellow (maybe paint the bags too). But the Thrux GE suits me

At least you're still riding with the rearsets. Thats what got me on a Black. I could have had a Thrux, but I fear my knees would have said noo waay.

The Buell pegs is a very common mod on the Suzuki SV650S/SV1000S, they require a little filing and drilling to bolt right on. And at a cheap $27 too. Got them on my SV, lowers the pegs a little over 1" if I remember correctly.

Did they bolt right up on the Thrux or did you have to modify them?

A little grinding was necessary to get the Buell footpegs to fit. I learned that trick from the Honda Hornet forums.
