Restricting a Bonneville

Does anybody here have experience of running a Bonnie restricted to 33BHP?

The girlfriend is doing her test soon on the 125 and we are looking at a Bonnie.

Just wondering if the bike runs ok when restricted.

Any help appreciated.

Triumph do a 34PS restrictor kit for both the Bonnie and the T100 for 29.99 UKP (so that'll be a washer and old sock for the air intake....)

Bonnie = Part No. A9618078

T100 = Part No. A9618032

Check out the Accessories page on the Triumph site:

I run a 33bhp Bonnie.

Runs just fine up to around 70-80mph (depending on). No stressy acceleration and won't stand on back wheel when leaving traffic lights but otherwise good.

Apart from the cost implications, why not go for the full test and skip the 2 years restricted to 33 BHP?.

The practical test is so easy its a joke!

Sorry - I misread that as restricting not running!

(It's too early in the year - I've not woken up yet!)

That was the original plan.

Only one problem, she isnt strong enough to do the walk through of the u-turn. So she is going to do the 125 test, get a few months under her belt, get used to a bigger bike and then probably resit the test to get full DAS before the rules change in October.

Trust me Ive been thro all this already and she is adamant she will do the test on the 125. Id rather that and she be happy than me force her into doing something she doesnt feel comfy with and put her off biking altogether.

Speaking as one who failed the practical first time through (failed to spot that I was entitled to use a part-time bus lane) I am very pleased that I did not go straight for the DAS. I did consider doing it but realised that I would be paying someone to teach me how to pass a test quickly rather than how to ride a bike.

I've been riding a restricted Bonnie for the last four months and have only recently found the limits of power. I am however a very comfortable confident rider now, I doubt that that would be true if I'd done the crash course instead.
