Monza gas cap install on Thurxton

My brother is trying to install a Monza gas cap from British-Customs on his 05' Thruxton. No matter how he installs it the flip part is toward the front of the bike. I know the flipper should be facing the rider so the cap open toward the headlight. From what he's told me he threaded the bung into the tank and then threaded the cap onto the bung. From what I've read on this forum thats how its supposed to be installed.

Any ideas? He's getting pretty pissed as he paid $150 for a cap that is installing backwards.

Thanks

If you mean that the hinge is toward the front of the bike, then that's how I would expect it to be installed.

I have fitted one on my T100 and another on my Thunderbird, it was just a simple task of adding or removing the fibre washers, the one on my T100 required no washers at all, the T-Bird required 2.

Another way is to use a dab of the locktite red on the threads. Screw the adaptor into the tank very snug, then apply 1 fiber washer and a little locktite red to the adaptor threads - then screw on the monza cap till snug - then line it up in the direction you want and let the "red" set-up - it won't be moving. The fiber washer always left mine a little crocked one way or the other - but the locktite has worked well for over 30,000 miles.

I just got a new one from NewBonnie. It's a 3 part modular design and allows you to adjust exactly where you want the lid - also comes with a complete set of instructions. I have an older one too (on another bike) and it was a pain to get set correctly. I ended up making a thicker gasket from cardboard so it woukd align correctly.

fixed

Well, we fixed it. After calling British Customs and trying everything they said to no avail we decided to head to Autozone. Bought a sheet of gasket and cut our own gasket to fit between the bung and the cap. Its about 3x thicker than the paper gaskets supplied. BC only gave 1 cork to go between bung and tank and 2 paperish to got between the bung and cap. The 2 paper ones wouldn't line up. But the gasket we bought at Autozone allowed us to center the cap in the right direction.

My brother is happy. Too bad BC didn't send 3 gaskets.
