Custom Decals / nose art

So I made a pin up girl decal and stuck it on the tail of my Bonnie, and I had several emails from people wanting to know how it's done, and a couple of people asked me to make a thread. I couldn't bring myself to put it in the technical section, being as a sticker is not very likely to improve suspension / exhaust note / power / wifely attitude.

Well anyway, making custom decals is easy if you have a computer, printer and some graphics software.

From the sticker standpoint, you need "vinyl sticker paper" sometimes sold as "car bumper sticker paper". The stuff that is sold as bumper sticker paper is what you want, because it's made to be a little weather resistant.

You simply print your graphic onto the sticker paper the same as you would if you were printing to any ordinary sheet of paper BUT do not touch the printing for 24 hours - lay it somewhere flat, and out of the way to dry.

After that you have to treat the surface with some protective spray - count on giving it 3 to 4 coats to get glossy and thick enough without runs and drips in it.

Then, simply cut out the decal as neatly as possible, and stick it where you want it.

I have purchased supplies from a place called McGonigal custom art supplies or something, but if you do web search for "printable vinyl sticker paper" you will find plenty of others - office depot may even sell it, but I like to buy from the small guy.

Military decals / nose art / pin ups
(this place will make custom decals for you - might be a good option and they are very good quality - I purchased stickers from here)

Have fun. One day I'll start a proper thread about engines and stuff.

Great idea! Although, to be sure, my wife would be hunting for a new husband if she saw "Bonnie" on my bike.

Shirts

I forgot about shirts - I know that you can get iron on sheets that can be ink jet printed. Don't know how good they look. Might have to try it.

I ALMOST ripped off your avatar and added the "triumph" logo to my Bonnie pin up, but couldn't figure out how to curve the logo to make it sit right on the tail hump. Plus, it would be ripping off an idea, not cool. I like your avatar a lot.

I get all my ex unit patches from www.military-graphics.com, they make a high quality sticker, and ship promptly. At least the rear fender is "iron".

very cool. I'm thinking you could sell these online if you wanted to since most of us don't have time to make them ourselves. I wonder if there would be any good historical designs that would look good on a triumph.. Like copies of the ones on WW2 RAF fighters. Perhaps made smaller to fit on a bike...

Your best bet is to go to the www.military-graphics.com website - I just checked and they are happy to do one off decals for you. Send them the artwork and tell them how big you want it, and they will do it for you. They can do a much better job than I can.

KingBear, I've said before and I'll say it again...those are the coolest **** pictures ever (avatars) I would pay just about whatever, to get a couple stickers of those that fit perfectly on the sidecovers on my Bonnie
