Race "what ya brung"

I have heard of race tracks that allow the general public to race "what ya brung". IOW, whatever you ride on the street - you race it. There's a track relatively nearby that does that and I'm thinking about going - most likely to just watch. But to me it would seem like more exciting to watch than track built bikes.

Have any of you ever been to a race like this? How do your Bonnies do?

Haven't been to one on a bike, but when I was a teenager, my buddies used to bring their cars to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ. I recall Wednesday nights you could run your car on the quarter mile, and it WAS more interesting than watching the multi-thousand $ funny cars, to see the braggarts miss a gear and the humble backyard mechanic smoke 'em.

I suppose I'd take a crack at the quarter mile if I could.

I'd like to as well but would like to watch "first"!!

I've always liked to see similar machines race in a quarter mile. An example would be like a '67 Mustang vs a '67 Cougar........both with .289's. Or a Sportster vs a Bonnie. Just seeing similar machines with similar displacement race with the only "advantage" being response time off the line or shifting deciding the winner.

To me - THAT is racing!!

Hog,we had that back in the 70s at SIR.I only did it once,on a dare,in my 53 Chev PU. The hot [not] 235 stovebolt, mated to the non syncro 3 on the tree, was not my racer of choice. She did turn a respectable high 20s/low 30s run as I recall.

There is still a place like that down here in Arkansas. I live about 2hrs from it and yet to got but rumor has it that for about five bucks a day you can run what you got. The old man that has the track loves the sport and lets anything run on the track.Seen videos with full out street class racers at the place. Its located in Paragould, Ar guess ill have to go some time this summer.

Thumbs up

When I was a kid, late teens/early 20's, I had a couple of cars that I figured were pretty fast. Also found out that on Wednesday nights the local drag strip had "grudge races." A guy could sign up for something like $2, and run all night after a safety check. It was a hoot. Rather than street racing, with all the danger & safety problems as well as the threat of being locked up and having your car impounded... There we were, at a real drag strip. Cool.

Pay up. Safety inspection. Cars w/more suds had to have more safety equipment. Get in line. Move up to the Christmas Tree when it was time. Stage, watch the lights.... Blamo! Foot to the floor and run 'er up through the quarter mile. My '69 Chev with a 350 ran mid 14's and went through the traps at 90+ mph, which I didn't think was too bad for having 2.73:1 gears out back. Never got around to swapping those gears.

Don't have anything like that around here, but it sure would be fun to run the bike.

Regards, Guy

Yes I've been to a track like that. The LAPD used to Rent (I guess) their training facility to this guy who let you run what you brung. It kept kids off the street and was highly entertaining. You did have to do something about overflow tubes etc., but I did run my Subaru BRAT and it was entertaining.

are you wanting to go to lebenon valley ? ive run there several times on different bikes.alot of fun ,they do tech you in, even on a test and tune day .all you need is a d.o.t helmet and a tether kill switch of some sort..and full leathers if you go faster than 13o mhp or 10 seconds.just stay in lane 9 when you ride from the pit area.it almost alway the bike lane .slow or fast its addicting.
