Was able to start riding 3/13/08 my ass hurts
I put on about 500 miles since the 13th, mainly the last 6 days and my ass hurts- anyone else get back in the saddle (I installed a solo seat and a pillion for the passenger, the stock speedy seat was not as comfy). It's like it falls asleep and I move around to different positions while riding. Short of just waiting to get used to riding again after a 4 to 5 month winter, any suggestions out there besides I have a fat ass?

Try scooting forward on the seat just a hair.
Seems on the speedies my tailbone pushes up against the back rim of the seat and causes pain and numbness.
I find that if I consciously keep from pushing back on the pegs with my legs and stay a tad forward in the seat it's not near as bad.

On longer trips I have worn my bicycle shorts with a butt pad under my jeans, made a big difference.

I rode 263 miles Saturday, and 287 miles on Sunday. The only thing that bothered me afterwards was my upper/middle back, and wind noise after-effect - gotta pick up some ear plugs pronto. I'm getting some handlebar risers from NB asap, as that 1 and 1/2 inch rise might help.
It was chilly in the AM, as I left about 9 AM, around 38 degrees. Later it rose to roughly mid-50's. Nice.
I rode from Yorkville to Port Byron (via 34, then 92) on the Mississippi River, North on 84 to 30 and then back. Nice ride, if a bit boring on 92, but no other non-toll road or big slab way to go. In reality, it was sort of interesting going through some of the REALLY small towns, who ARE these people, and what do they do for a living? Sincerely no offence intended, just curious. Where do you work when you live that far from "civilization"?? This coming weekend I'm trying route 6 to 82 north to 92 as a diversion.
I repeated the same route Sunday, but took a few unknown side roads once near the river for an adventure. Yes, I got hopelessly lost, and of course I immediately had to a.) go to the bathroom, and b.) was suddenly low on gas without a filling station in site.
Just made it on the fumes to a "Casey" filling station. Actually kind of a nice place - coffee and donuts! Beef jerky!
Tons and tons of bikes out on the way back home, around 3 PM. What's with the non-wavers who look terminally pee'd off? If riding makes you feel that way... don't do it!
Ride safe!!

I hear you Bob - I was out saturday, waved at everyone. Thought there was something wrong with me for a while, with everyone looking so miserable. Eventually I happened across real riders, out having a good time and waving back in an appropriately comradely manner.
I think the non wavers are the mid-life-crisisers, all trying to look "badass".
I just fitted a pair of those risers last night for exactly the reason you mention. It certainly feeld like my back is starighter now - I need to do a properly long ride to test them out. Those risers just about go in - I had to readjust my clutch cable a tad, but no biggie.

propforward,
Thanks for the info on the risers, nice to know it's not the usual #$%(*% hassle, "adult assembly required" stuff.
I agree on the "badass" concept, sadly, there is a lot of that going around. Perhaps they overloaded on bad biker movies in their youth.
"Midlife "crisisers", maybe "Crisii?", "crisisee's"? Here's a good one for our linquistics people!
Not to high-jack this thread, we need to help Tomkrill out:
Has anyone tried one of those Gel seat covers? Other aftermarket covers?

Sunday's Ride
I took the girlfriend out for a ride Sunday and seen about 100 bikers, only one didn't wave back (snob). A friend of mine gave me the seat from his speedy when he replaced it with the NB solo and pillion this winter. My girlfriend is 5' 10" and much to my surprise she likes the speedy seat better because the backrest sets higher up on her back though it has less cushion than the pillion that came with the bike. I too had the "tail bone syndrome" with the speedy seat but after making a few adjustments in my seating position I was more comfortable.

I can't believe I wrote "feeld" what the hell kind of word is that anyway? I meant "felt" of course.
I've heard lots of different points of view on the whole Gel thing - saw some interesting posts about trimming out the underside of the seat pan, so that the family jewels are not crushed. If I can find the post again I'll put a link to it - I'm thinking sitting back a bit with the risers may help most of my sore arse woas.
Mid Life Crisisees perhaps?

Hey Gob-ny-geay,
A week ago I had to pee like right now and I was out in the country so I took a right onto a little used road got off my bike and took off my helmet by a tree and a police officer pulls up going the other way and asked if I needed any help. I said "nope, just making a phone call but thanks for asking." he drove away and as soon as he was out of sight I didn't even undo my belt, I pulled my pants down and wizzzzzzzzz. Next time I will stop at a gas station as soon as I feel I may be ready. In today's world you have to worry about taking a leak in "public" you may get arrested for indecent exposure, ya know!
