Question toting a rifle on a bonneville

I've got a bone stock T100. No luggage, no sissy bar. Right now, any cargo I want to carry has to fit in a backpack.

That said, my rifles have been stuck in the locker since I got this bike. I'd like to start taking them out again. To that end, I'd like to see pictures of how any gun enthusiasts here are transporting rifles on their Bonnies.

I'm most interested in transporting my AR15 (A2 configuration, 20" barrel, iron sights), which can be broken down in half for transport but won't fit into my backpack. I doubt that I could really transport my Mosin-Nagant M91/30 but I suppose I could just affix the bayonet and use it as a lance for motorcycle jousting. It's certainly long enough for that.

Head over to the Cabela's website and take a look at the rifle "boots" available. They are intended to be used for ATV's but could probably be modified for a bike. That being said, I'm not sure I would be toting my .270 around on my bike...but that is just me.

Thanks. In my case, I'm switching over to riding the bike year-round, and actually selling the car. So these little practical issues are popping up.

If I were riding a Gold Wing, I'm sure they have room for a whole gun locker on there somewhere. But I had to go and buy something that actually looks more like a motorcycle and less like an RV on 2 wheels.

I'm with Idaho-thrux..get a boot. Do not be toting yer iron out in the open. That's inviting nuts and cops (don't know which would be worse). You might just want to visit a saddelry place in your neck of the woods. They might have something to fit the bill.

A stock T100, how unique!

I've been trying to think of a way to bring my shotgun to the clay range on the bike, but when I think about loading 200+ shells, clays, a shotgun....

I'll just take the car.

Other Motorcycle: I wish, but with a BONNIE
Extra Motorcycle: who needs another
sew in a gun case

Yonder,
If I was going to do this I would heavily sew a gun case across and thru my back pack. Sewing it against the part of the pack that rests on your back.
In New Hampshire we solved this problem another way, we carry hand guns in hip holsters, no kidding. Most people doen't even notice. I have taken my .41, .45 and .222 TC in their holsters to the range on the bike.
Twice the fun!!

I have the Pre-Ban AR15 with collapsible stock and collapsed it goes into skinny mode real easy. I can easily sling that over my back in an on-assuming fabric case and nobody would have a clue if it was a gun or a pool cue.

Yes I do also open carry my pistol. It raises a couple of eyebrows but most people get over it and with only one exception the neighborhood parents still let their kids play with mine, even knowing I'm packing.

I did actually ride out today to do some action pistol exercises, and the bike was fine for that (everything fit in the backpack).

I'm thinking I might get a guitar case or something that can strap to my back so when people see me riding I don't look like Tex Cobb in Raising Arizona or something. I would never carry a rifle in the open anyway. But even in a proper rifle case it might get too much unwanted attention. But a guitar case on the other hand...

Oh the memories... I recall, about 1980 or so, riding up into the Sierras, the Remington slung across my back. Headed right up Hwy 50 from Sacramento. Rode the bike to the trailhead - parked it. Hiked, shot a bit, headed back to the bike and rode home, the rifle still slung across my back.

Got a lot of strange looks. I remember noticing that nobody crowded me on the highway that day. Didn't bump into any LE types. Probably a good thing. Didn't do it again.

Regards, Guy
