Barnett clutch
Billy,
I had a Barnett clutch installed after I did the NARK and pods because of the slippage the stock clutch gave. Needless to say it doesn't slip now. I did however notice a large difference in Barnett clutch behavior with different oils I used in her.
The shop put in Golden Spectrum 15-50 and it was superb.
The following year I used Shell Rotella 5-40 and it too was superb. I changed it every 2000 miles, although I don't think I needed to, just being cautious.
Then I went to Ames Oil, 20-50, heard lots of good things about it, much harder to go through the gears when starting out, after she warms up, better.
After the milage has expired on the Ames Oil, I'm going back to the Shell, it's relatively cheap and did a great job. Someone on this forum did an engine oil analysis on the 5-40 and found no abnormal wear. I don't know if they had done any engine mods or not.
Hope this hellps,,
BB

I too use Rotella 5w-40. After a few thousand miles in the bike, I dump the oil and use it in my lawnmower! I love that stuff, full synth for $16 a gallon at Wally-World plus a $5 generic filter. Nothing beats a $20 full synth oil change.
When you say Barnett Clutch, did you install the plates too? I've had their springs in my clutch, but I'm running stock plates. Some have had problems with the Barnett Clutch, it seems to make it difficult to find neutral.

Yep plates and springs, never had it slip. I want to really put it to the test though, 989 with the Miks.

sweat i think mine might be a little bit harder to hit netural but i think its cause it shifts easyer seams to take a softer foot to shift it.So far i like the clutch its alot better then there clutchs they made i ran in the old days on kaws and hondas .Back then they took out the cooling groves you could get bike hot at a light it would try to move with clutch pulled in lol that would wake ya up.
I never liked Ames Oil in anything its more like the amway of oils all bs that they get people to beleave.I think some of oil out there has stuff in it that lubes to good for wet clutches.
LOL the oil people give us the shaft sell us oil with less stuff in it for more money.

Sweat,neutral
Nope, no problem finding neutral, I might miss it once in a while, but I've always had that issue, too much foot.

I am having a very hard time finding neutral when the bike is at a complete stop.
Coasting to a stop it slips in easy or turning the engine off she goes in easy.
It may have to do with my bike being one of the early 2001 models?
It also may be the Mobil 1 w20/50 full syn? I don't know.
The Barnett kit grabs and holds very well the shifting is a little stiff but shifts ok.
But, finding neutral is a real pain.
I am hoping that once the plates start to wear and the oil breaks down it will help?
Next oil change I will go back to Castrol w20/50 full syn. but that won't be till the end of the season.
Bill

I am being told that the springs that come with the Barnett kit are too long for my 2001 bonnie.
They are about 3/16" longer then the stock springs.
I am looking for the green springs to replace the ones that came with the kit.
Does any one know were I can find the green springs in a hurry?
Thanks
Bill
