Newbie to purchase Scrambler - Suggestions?

So I've just about sold my BMW F650, and as soon as I do, I'm headed to the Triumph dealer (Triumph NYC) to get a Scrambler.

I'm going for the Scrambler because of aesthetics, and it seems a little more suited for what passes for roads in NYC than the Bonneville. I also like the more "aggressive" look of her.

So, for those of you who have been here before, days before your purchase - any suggestions? Any thoughts on how long to break her in before I start changing performance parts? There's a smattering of farkles I'm looking at, mostly cases and gauges.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Particularly about rust and how to avoid it - the Scrambler will be on the street, and I saw posts about ACF-50, but anything else would great.

Thanks!

David

Best "performance" mod to any Scrambler/Bonnie is improve the suspension.
No good throwing $$ into engine performance, if the bike handles poorly, (which they do stock).
Bling the thing if you like (and if it suits the environment).
Rust issues are region specific. However, mine gets filthy, then waterblasted, then mildly detailed. Rust isn't an issue except where stone chips have occured. (inner swingarm etc)
Enjoy your bike.

Scramboy's pretty much nailed it, & I can't think of anything else to add.
These Hinkley twins take around 3500 miles to loosen up fully, but are pretty well run in after a 1000 miles or so.
There's another forum member who Scrambles around NYC (I think his handle's Skidplate865, but I could be wrong). & apart from a few skirmishes with taxi's, he seems to have a ton of fun on it. So he might be able to give you a few tips about Scrambler survival, in your local environment.
Welcome to the club.
You've made a good choice, the Scram's a great bike.
Enjoy it.
Scratch

PS What colour are you getting?

I ride in nyc and recently got a bonneville black (from the same shop i bet)

i had a vespa gt 200 before - which i could really toss around in NYC traffic - still getting comfortable on the bonnie to ride like i did the gt 200.

i bought a kit from british customs that i had installed on the new bike (airbox removal/predator pipes) got low cafe handlebars. also some minor bling type stuff.

I loved the bike but had a bug to customize.

i say - go for what you want and, can afford!

you can always wait - but what's the fun in that?
