RoadDog,
I'm going to give you another slant on this.
The responsibility for getting the seat to you in the condition it was advertised is with the seller. It's his responsibility to you.
The responsibility for packing and shipping in good condition is with UPS - as the seller had them pack it. And that responsibility is with the seller, not you. He paid UPS.
While you need to document the condition of the seat and the packaging material, the claim is made by the sender.
Ultimately, if the seller should make good on the poor condition of the product. It's his problem as to how he does it.
My suggestion to him would be to make the claim to UPS, take the insurance and add to it enough to cover your costs to have Corbin recover it - if you are willing to do that.
If not, he should take it back with full refund.
Just my 2p.
Bob

Thanks Bob... I always appreciate helpful input, such as yours. That's a grand idea, and if it becomes an option it would be an acceptable remedy. The seller has already agreed to make it right, and I have been asked to place the seat in the original box and packing material for UPS damage claim inspection. UPS will be sending a truck by and picking up the Corbin seat tomorrow.

Fortunately, I've never gone through the hassle of filing a claim like this before. So I'm not sure if UPS will return the seat to the shipper after their inspection. The seller has indicated to me he was been told by the UPS store that this is what will happen. I'll have to wait and see what the next step is. But it appears like I won't be loosing anything, except for time a few more hairs.

It may be a good idea to see a local upholstery guy before sending it to Corbin to be recovered, you might find a guy who can make an undetectable repair for a fraction of the cost. You'd really be into a good deal then, if UPS gives you money for the damage. Good luck!

That sounds like the right procedure, Phil. I haven't had a claim with UPS specifically, so retuning to sender may be their policy. I'm hoping that you kept all of the packaging - you may have told us that in earlier postings.
It also sounds like you have a solid eBay seller that you are dealing with, so at the very worst you are out a little time and elevated blood pressure.
I tend to feel the way you do about getting what you wanted, or starting over and going another direction. I've always been willing to pay a bit more to get just what I want, but it does leave the wallet a little lighter. The trick is to not want too much!
Bob
