is the 08 bonnie a bad bike?
After deciding to return to two wheels after a long break the question was what bike? I had for many years fancied an old British bike but after a lot of deliberation decided that the initial cost of a good bike, the reliability, the ride experience was not for me. I figured that the next best thing would be a modern classic as soon as I saw the Bonneville Black in a local showroom I new that was the bike for me, all this was going on towards the back end of last year so the next dilemma was carb buy now, or wait for the injection model, my initial thought was carb, but then reflected on what I was buying the only similarity with a Meriden Triumph is the name forget the heritage there isn’t any on a modern triumph what you buy is what you see and for me that’s just fine which is why I take delivery of my 08 injected model next week. Now I will get to my point having read a number of posts a about carb v injection I could be left with the impression I have just brought a crap bike! Plastic badges, shape of tank fake carbs ect ect. I accept that everyone is entitled to there opinion but I think Triumph deserve some credit for the way they have handled this enforced change, I would suggest the purists sell there modern classics and buy a bike with the design features they prefer -- from the 1960s!

Easy Javlin.
Don't let 'em get under your skin. Triumph is putting out a great product. You will love her. Many folks are still winter bound, haven't ridden in 4 + months. They are over opinionated and grumpy.
Pick 'er up and RIDE brother!!!!!!!!!

Buy the bike and dont look back. I have a 2008 here in the states that is not fuel injected. It has the newer style tank and plastic badges but Who cares.!!!! I like the tank! As for the badges I Didnt plan on changing mine out so Im not worried about it.
I Cannot Stop anywhere with the bike and not expect to get hammered with questions about the bike. If I go out riding with my buddies (all Harley guys) I Spend more time riding harleys than my bike because everyone wants to ride it.
Its been a great bike, Its Fast enough, it gets decent enough Fuel mileage for me.
Get the Bike and Ride the snot out of it and dont give two shiats what anyone else thinks.

Much as I consider all Triumph owners kith & kin (whether they ride Coventry, Meriden or Hinkley). I also have to say that they are the last refuge for Luddites.
Every change that Triumph's ever made, from telescopic forks & unit gearboxes to EFI & plastic badges. Has been greeted with howls of protest from existing Triumph owners. Who seem covinced that they're riding the pinnacle of modern technology, which can't be improved in any way.
If Triumph had let these people influence product developement we'd still have accetylene lights & manually adjusted timing!
The world is not static.
It moves!
& we (& Triumph) have to move with it, or be consigned to history.

You mean the kerosene lantern I have for my headlight is not the latest thing in lighting?

It is better than the candle that I use to check the fuel level at night.

I think all the replies have got it right.
I haven't seen the redesigned tank for the EFI, but if it doesn't look strange, I'd love to have on '08.
I'll take EFI anytime. Added reliability, and as Scratcher commented, improvements have come all along in time (thankfully). Nobody seems to complain about the OHC engines - right?
Harleys have been criticized for years for continuing to build pushrod engines (doesn't seem to bother the H-D riders), so I say take the advances and have a good time with them.
I recently sold my '72 Norton Commando, and don't really miss her in the riding sense, because I can hop on the '05 T100 and start her up and idle easily (OK, maybe a little coddling in the cold), don't have to fettle frequently, etc.; and the handling, even stock, seems much improved to me. The classics are in part a romanticized bike, and those classics (from when to when?) were improvements on the earlier bikes.
Enjoy the ride!!
Bob

"Luddite"....A member of any of various bands of workmen in England (1811-16) organized to destroy manufacturing machinery, under the belief that its use diminished employment...
American College Dictionary
I think the term more commonly refers to those who are suspicious of or maybe even intolerant of change.
In any case, Triumph owners must surely share the Luddite title with some BMW airhead owners...

The '08 Bonnie isn't a "bad bike" per se... just not as good as the '06 Bonnie.
