Road the Scrambler today...

I finally got a chance to take the Scrambler out for my 2nd ride today and I'm coming away much more impressed than I thought I would. This motorcycle rocks!!

I've only got 70 miles on it so I have to take it easy but I have to say that I'm really impressed with the torque this little motor puts out. I have the off road pipes but I suspect its the same with all of these motors... they really pull, and these pipes sound sweet.

I stopped at McDonalds to have a coffee and warm up and a guy comes over to tell me about the '73 Tiger he used to have. He wanted me to start it so he could hear how she sounds. Then he wanted to know where the dealer was.

Then I get out on the road and come to a stop light and the guy behind me pulls up on my right side to tell me that he had a '61 Bonneville!

I can't believe all the attention this bike gets. I have had two Harleys that didn't even begin to draw this much attention. In fact, the only other bikes I had that got this much attention was my '79 Bonneville and my '96 Thunderbird. This really drives the point home that the Triumph brand image is alive and well. Most likely getting stronger all the time. I think history may be repeating itself without the oil leaks and Lucas jokes!

I love that black scram! These bikes do get a lot of attention. I rode 6 miles today and got 4 compliments!

I put over 200 miles on my Scram today. Every time I stopped someone came up to ask about it. These bikes sure draw attention.

Smile

This made me smile.

I find it strange that new Trumpet owners are surprised that people actually do start talking to them about bikes when out-and-about, despite the fact that everyone on these forums will tell you that it happens. I certainly wasn't expecting the attention I got on my Speedie, both when riding and when stopped. The first time I parked up and left it, I returned to find 8 people around my bike, some old, some young. I've actually brought a whole village square to standstill as I rode round it, looking for someone, the sound of the TORS bouncing off the walls announcing my presence.

Enjoy.

(As an aside, if you want to reduce the age of people looking at/talking about your bike, remove the badges. This act improves the gender ratio, too!!)

You touched on something that I don't get.

Beautiful day outside, sun is shining, it's cool but not cold. Perfect weather to get out there on a bike.

Then some guy gets all excited pulling up next to you at a light, telling you how great these bikes are, and how he has a classic Triumph of his own.

"So why are you in a minivan? Alone?"

The warm spring afternoon I rode my Scrambler home from the dealership, I pulled up at a stoplight next to a school bus. As I waited for the light to change, I heard a young voice next to me shouting "Hey Mister." I looked up at a boy, probably around 10, hanging out of the bus window. His face was an image of amazed wonder as he shouted, "Wow! What a cool bike!" I gave him the thumbs up and, as the light changed, wound it up for him before I rolled out.

That was last year and I still think of it frequently. I hope it made as big an impression on him as it did on me. I've been riding motorcycles for almost 40 years and of all the bikes I've owned, borrowed, or just got to ride for a little bit, the Scrambler is the most fun of all of them. It certainly draws the best crowds. There is nothing like pulling up to a watering hole resplendent with a few dozen $20K+ Harleys and have everybody walk over to look at my meager little Scrambler. And every time something like that happens, I think to myself, "Wow! What a cool bike."

Was putting my jacket/helmet on to ride away from a pub.
Started the Scrambler (TOR's fitted), a guy looks out the MENS toilet window, big grin, and thumbs up People looked at him, then me.
I got the hell out of the car park super quick.
True Story.
