Help with Dealer add-on Fees in California

Hi Guys and Gals

I'm new to California and wanted to get some advice on what fees are charged over and above the MSRP in California.

I looking for a 2007 T-100 to take advantage of the $1000 accessory promotion.

I've seen mention of delivery fees, set-up fees, I also believe there is is 8.25% state sales tax and 2% licence fees. And I guess there is registration

I've also read on these forums the delivery fee from Triumph to the dealer is/should be included in the MSRP. Does anyone know if that's true.

I'm trying to understand which fees are reasonable and which ones might be the dealer loading the price. Don't get me wrong I am not out to screw the dealer - I need the dealer. Just trying to be informed.

Thanks

If you are in SoCal, you can usually get an out the door price under Triumph's MSRP at OTD cyclesports.

I also recommend the OTD network. I picked my T100 up at OC Motorsports in Santa Ana.

I bought my 2007 T-100 around a year ago. I got a quote from OTD, but ultimately bought from Southern California Triumph in Brea. They matched the OTD price, and their customer service has been outstanding. Great service department too.

Not sure where you live, but you wouldn't go wrong with either dealer.

Thanks guys I'm in the bay area but have contacted OTD. I really wanted to buy from a bay area dealer but they are quoted me $9600 OTD on a new 2007 and I know that's too high. Hey I can always ship it from OTD or pick it up myself.

Ideally I would like to support my local dealer ......

Too much!

The freight and setup should be eaten by the dealer. Be firm. State tax is non-negotiable if the dealer is required to collect it. 2% licensing fee is something i don't understand as to what it is. The State should also be setting a registration fee if that is the same thing. Maybe an additional $25-50 bucks for putting the paperwork together. I would politely decline and move along to another dealer. Make sure they don't try and screw you out of your $1000 in accessories.

I hate dealers who try and screw people over like that. Buyers need to be prepared to walk out the door and not let the shiney bits blind your common sense.

My Fresno California dealer wanted a near $1000 set up fee and I said "no thanks" and got up to leave but he wanted to make a sale. No set up fee. I should of haggled more but my insurance dealer (USAA) gave me a loan and called the dealer to work out the deal. So they cut me a check for $7999 plus tax and stuff. USAA rocks! I also used "No thanks, I'll go buy a Honda" when I bought my Kawasaki and that got my price real low

The fees tacked on my purchase were

Delivery & handling $825
Doc fee $325
Sales tax $545

That was for a Bonnie Black. I had my choce of 2 dealers and not a speck of dicker in either of em, but the one I bought from went the extra mile for me and has done so since I bought the bike. That's worth a lot.

Hey 7Iron where abouts in the bay area are you at? We have Hattar in Marin, Whats his face in SF and the dealer in Mountain view. Somebody should give you a deal!!

Be careful about bringing a non Ca. bike into state, it can be a hassle, buy something used if you can, best bang for the buck.
