I'm with Scratch. I think the operative words were "as we know them". I didn't get that they were discontinuing them out of that at all. There are changes being made (namely EFI) that are 'controversial' among Triumph afficionados, at least on this forum. Just do a search on EFI, and you will see just how many threads there are about it, and how many strong opinions there are!

With as many people that do not like the idea of EFI being put on these machines, the older carb models could be viewed as new "classics".

As to the original question on this thread, I would suggest to have someone who knows a bit about these bikes look it over and take it for a test ride. If everything looks good, go for it!! And welcome to the forum!

Great bike the Bonneville. I have over 31,000 miles on my 2001. Go for the 2005 if it is as clean as the picture makes it out to be. Good luck.

Here is another one that I liked, but it is about a 6 hour drive from me, which is not bad. But also I cannot get a hold of the guy.

Hope he calls me back.

I'd avoid the 2001 unless the known problems with it are documented fixed. That would be clutch chatter and oil in the airbox. Both of these were addressed in later years.

Here is another posting on craig's list. This is a pretty good price.

http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/601702658.html

And here is a reply from the seller when I asked if there were any issues with it:

No leaks at all.
The battery is still the factory original and the bike starts fine. But that might have to be replaced at some point - can be done easily by the owner. A new battery costs $70 - $90.

Other that that, couple of nuts on the exhaust pipes are rusted. Pretty cheap to buy and put in.
I just spent $478 (can show you the shop work form) for service and new parts

Thanks

both look sweet.
bout $1000 difference, $1000 will buy a fella a lot of gear, oil, tires, fuel, insurance, etc. However, lower miles is also appealing. If cash isn't the primary issue, I'd probably go with the lesser mileage bike. Still a great price. If things are tight in getting the machine purchased, on the road and geared up then the less expensive one may be the best option.
Tough decision but nice to have two great options!

cdubya - exactly my dilemma. I guess either way I will be sitting pretty. But it is hard for someone who is a bit indecisive.

Both of those bikes sold last night. If anyone knows of some bikes for sale in the Phoenix area or even Southern CA. let me know.
