Talking Scrambler Heat Shield removal

I've seen a number of Scrambler photos here with the rear heat shields removed,
and I really like the look.

As I'm picking up my Scrambler this Saturday, I was wondering if you just remove the heat shield. I'm getting TORs on the bike with my $1K allowance so that may make a difference.

How are the shield installed on the "mufflers" hopefully not with some type of bracket that remains.

The photos I saw, the mufflers looked "unmarked", i.e. clean without brackets.

The really good looking Scrambler pipes, I believe, are aftermarket Norm Hyde variety. Check out johnyC's beautiful machine on pages 2 & 3 of Post Your Scrambler Pics sticky topic on the top forum menu.

If those are the ones you're talking about, they're about $1,000.

Stock and TOR's have bolt holes for the shield.

Why would you want to risk burning your leg, just to achieve a "cool" look? The heat shields are not cosmetic. They're doing an essential job! This makes no sense to me at all.
But if you're insistant on doing it, you'll have to get the brackets removed.

I'm getting the solo seat and since my wife rides, I have no intention of riding two-up. If I'm burning my leg on the muffler shields, I'm doing something wrong.

I like the look of no shields, "old-school", and yes I've seen Norman Hydes, but I thought (I may be mistaken) that some folks had removed the shields on the OEM pipes.

Yeah those rear brackets for the heat shields are welded (or tacked welded) onto the mufflers, seems like where they attach the chrome has a rougher finish so even if you could remove the brackets there would be a rough spot. I believe that rmak is correct about the Hyde mufflers being on the other bikes.

Texasmule, by the way the Tor's sound really nice in case you haven't heard them before, I was quite surprised when I installed mine.

Post some pics when you get a chance.

+1 on the TOR's. Right Scratch? (having trouble putting the happy smile face here)

I was against using TOR's since I had TOR's installed on my Thunderbird which were very close to stock. But the Scrambler TOR's sound great. Staintune also makes Scrambler cans now. I believe the ones I saw had the guards on, but you might check.

The TOR's on the Scrambler do sound great, and you can always swap the stock heat shields for the Norman Hyde wire one, like I have. Here's a couple of pictures of the alternative, old fashioned looking wire exhaust guard for the Scrambler that Norman Hyde sells:

I'm glad you're liking your TOR's Rich, 'coz that means you're getting out & riding a bit. So that's gotta be a win/win. Right?
Sorry if I came on a bit strong about the heat shields texasmule (it was before my first coffee). I don't really care what you do with your bike. You payed for it, customise it how you want. I just wouldn't do it to my bike.
Even though I use my solo seat 90% of the time, I still like to have a comfortable pillion perch, to keep the ladies happy. But then, I'm still single.
Have you seen the aftermarket systems from Thunderbike, & the new 2 into 1 system from Arrow? I know your rebate won't cover them. But if you think you'll upgrade to them eventually, you might be better to spend your rebate on something else. So that you don't end up with a spare set of TOR's. Like many of us here have.

Not to hi-jack the thread and all, but is that a series 111 Lambretta SX200 behind GleaminTwins Scrambler? Sat on one of those a couple of months ago and it seemed a whole lot smaller than they did 35 years ago. There again, maybe I've spead out a bit.
