Blue Pipes are Good?

As some of you know I'm new to Triumph motorcycles, like within the last week. I even haven't had a chance to ride it yet on account it's winter here. So that leaves quite a bit of time to sit back with a beverage and admire the beauty of this new to me Bonneville motorcycle. I have also had the opportunity to look through the picture threads of many other's Triumphs. I have noticed that some pipes in these pictures seem to be bluer on some bikes compared to others. Now I have heard that this bluing ads character to the bike and I am perfectly willing to accept this notion but I can't help but wish mine were shinning chrome again. I realize some bikes have shields and covers that cover this discoloration but I wonder if some are using a product that can be used on our single wall pipes to keep them shinny. So if anyone can enlighten me on the subject of pipe discoloration I'm all ears.

I like mine black... ceramic coated that is.
However, if you want to keep your's shinny,
Blue Job chrome polish is the product for you.

Good Stuff

THIS IS THE STUFF TO TAKE AWAY THE BLUES " solvol autosol" widely available in Europe
i used this to remove most of the blue from my Bonny pipes after AI removal just leaving about 3 inches of blue at top of pipes , just google for it if its not available in your area

Well. Rumbles, its all a matter of personal preference. I like blued pipes. Always have. Always will. Some hate them and spend a lot of time and effort trying to keep them shining. Not me. Rather ride.

To each his own.

It is the only product that has worked for me but I agree it's lot of work and requires patience.

Blue pipes are a indicator of how much you ride your Bonnie. Wear it with pride and take it past its second pipe bend.

Blue pipes are a symptom of being too hot, Rumbles. Not that there's anything wrong with your bike, 'cause that's the way all of the new Bonnies come out. Mostly due to EPA (don't know the Canada version) requirements for emissions. Hotter burn, lower emissions.
You can at at least reduce the heat by removing the AI and rejetting with larger jets (more fuel).
It takes almost no time for the big blue to take place when run with stock settings.
I removed the AI, replaced the pipes with more free-flow (and better sound) pipes, but have been so lazy that I haven't removed the blue to see if it comes back, at all.
Probably someone here has done that
I wouldn't bother to remove the blue unless you change the AI/muffler setup, as it will be right back.
Cheers

One of those ubiquitous Old Geezer's, who always materialize whenever I pull in anywhere for fuel, had a real go at me about my Triumph's blue pipes.
But he thought I had an old Meriden (like 75% of them do) & was carrying on about how it was the ruination of the company, & had allowed the Japs to steal a march on the Poms.
He went totally ballistic when I told him it was a new one "Haven't they learned a thing!" He fumed "They'll never sell! The Japs will run rings around 'em again!" & so on.
I was going to point out that they're selling like hotcakes, & I personally liked the bluing. But he was close enough to a coronary as it was. & I just wanted to pay for my fuel & get back on the road.
I'm really starting to dread fuel stops.
