want a new scrambler, got a few questions.

New to this forum and bikeless right now, but in about a month or so I plan on getting a 2008 or 07 scrambler. First are these bikes powerful enough for all day highway cruising at speeds of 70 to 80 mph? Second which chrome parts are real and which are plastic chrome, and body work what is plastic and what is metal? Any answers would be extemely helpfull.

Yep, they'll cruise all day at 70-80mph. Top speed, in standard form, is just on 100mph. & they can be modded to do 115mph, with no loss of character.
Can't help you with the plastic vs metal thing. I know they're putting more plastic on them all the time, so you're likely to get more metal on an earlier model than a later one. But my '06 has got plastic-chrome indicator stalks, so it's unavoidable.

Welcome to the lunatic asylum!

Mine will cruise easily at 80 all day, although it's a little buzzy, mainly due to the tires. It's not a Lead Wing, so it really depends on what your requirements are.Smoothness is just a tire change, and a little bump in gearing away.

I've got to be honest with you.If all day highway cruising is your forte, you might want to look elsewhere. The Scramblers bag is twisty backroads, and relatively smooth dirt trails.Looking cooler than anybody else while cruising the boulevard is just a bonus!

If you use your Scrambler the way Scratcher and I do,which is pretty much only staying on the tarmac until we get to the dirt, the Scramby will be a fair dinkum ride for you.(Did I say that right,Scratch?)

Plastic parts include head light & tail light assemblies, turn signals, side covers, mud guards, and seat pan.I think that covers it.Oh,I guess the '08 models also have plastic tank badges.I personally don't have a problem with this.Back in the days when the original scramblers were being built,we all used to junk our steel parts, and go out and spend big bucks to get plastic or fibreglass parts for our bikes,in an effort to reduce weight. Here the factory has done it for us.They should be applauded.
:
Again, welcome.I hope you love your Scrambler as much as I love mine.
:
Cheers!
Bruce

thanks for the info

I really do appreciate the replies, it helped to finalize my decision to get the scrambler. ( it was the scrambler vs. the T100, I think the scrambler looks alot cooler. but was'nt sure about the other stuff.)

T100's are a fine motorcycle. Great looks for the boulevarde, & enough performance to be a fun ride, on the tar.
But if you live in Texas, I'm assuming that you're within reasonable access of some good dirt roads. & that's where the Scrambler stops just looking cool, but becomes a lot of fun.
You'll never get down a hill like this on a T100

But it didn't worry my Scrambler one bit.
'Nuff said?

Here's a link to an old thread that will probably answer any questions you might have:
http://www.triumphrat.net/bonnie-own...ck-please.html

I started it when I was trying to decide whether or not to buy a Scrambler, and I got some great replies.

Oh,and another little pic to whet your appetite!

Scrambler

If you got dirt instead of sand like we got here- the Scram will do ya fine in the Hwy, & be a blast in the "dirt"! I miss those old days!! But then I am old as well . If no dirt- the T-100 is the way I would go. Either way- ENJOY & WELCOME!!!
