Why I love California
I love and hate California. I hate it for some reasons but here is one of the reasons why I love it. Yesterday at about 1500 I took my daughter out for a ride on the Thruxton. That's why I love California. On New Years day it was sunny and warm enough for a comfortable ride and only a few times all of 2007 did I deem the weather unfit for riding and I'm positive other riders in other parts of the world would of considered the days I did not ride to be perfect riding weather. So yes, I am a sissy when it comes to rain (don't want my precious Triumph to get wet) but the "cold" of California I can deal with!

In my 15 years here in California I have not felt any quakes or seen any landslides but I was there in San Diego for the fires. No fun.

California's got it all for riding. I went up Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu last Saturday, then went home over Sunset Boulevard. Where else can you get epic ocean views, twisties through the canyons and weather that lets you ride all year?

Yesterday I was lucky I only had to push my Bonneville through a foot of snow to be loaded in the back of a pickup. I had to take it down to the heated shop to install new brakes and a new rear tube. Wow it's a blistering 16 degrees today maybe I can ride.

My 30 year old son was in Malibu over Thanksgiving to visit his girl friend who recently relocated from the east to the west coast. (Her parents oversee a large estate in Malibu.) While there he experienced a wild fire with 40 mph winds and flames that required leaving the property to get close to the beach for protection. A couple of weeks after he left, there were more fires, then rain and mud slides.
I love warm, dry weather. Running from flames and mud doesn't sound good on two wheels, four wheels or two legs. Maybe just a weird time in Malibu.

Definitely a strange time in Malibu, it's generally very nice. I'm a native of SoCal. Other than 5 years in Chicago, I've spent my whole life here. However, I've been fortunate enough to travel a bit. I've found that everyplace has it's challenges with weather and various calamities. We've definitely got the constant threat of wildfires - we have them all the time. There's also the chance of earthquakes. However, Chicago had its tornadoes, sub-zero winters and humid summers. We were in Cancun during Hurricane Dean, as well as in the Caribbean during several severe tropical storms. On balance, I'll take the shortcomings of LA. You really can't beat the winters out here.

How long have you been in Lemoore?
How do you like the 100+ degree riding weather in the summer, or the tully fog?
Riding on Hwy 99 is like playing dodgeball with all the trucks, that really sounds like great fun. I know for I grew up in the San Joaquin Valley.
California is a great place, sometimes.
