One Year Scheduled Maintenance
Okay, so my Bonnie has 5600 miles on her and will be a year old on Feb. 14. I remembered the first real service as being at 6000 miles or 1 year (after the 600 mile jobbie, of course), so I just called my dealer to see about scheduling it, and the dude at the other said, "we don't have a 6000 mile service for your bike - but we do have a 4000 mile service". I'm not crazy, right? The Triumph manual says 6000?
Anyway, I asked about whether or not I really need to get it there by Feb 14 to keep the warranty valid and he said no, a 2 year warranty is a 2 year warranty, regardless of servicing, so I guess it doesn't matter.
I actually always do all my own work on bikes, scooters and cars except when I'm worried about keeping a warranty valid, so maybe I should just do it myself? What's involved in the 6000 mile service (assuming I'm right and the dealer's wrong about it being at 6000 miles, that is)? The only thing I know I need to do is adjust my chain - believe it or not, it wasn't really out of spec until recently, so I haven't adjusted it yet. I don't have the attachments for my torque wrench that would allow me to loosen the rear axle in place, so maybe I should drop the rear axle? Or just take it in and have the dealer do it? Opinions?

Have you got your maintenance booklet that came with the bike? - it should give you the schedule of how many miles and what work is needed for the service

Your warranty is likely to be invalidated if you do not have a service where specified. I believe the service trigger points are 6000 miles or one year whichever occurs sooner although a little over would normally be accepted.
I am surprised a dealer has turned down servicing work, they must have a reason for that. I would play safe and get it done for the first two years.

As does mine. When my 500 mile service was finished, the manager said "see ya at 6000" as I was leaving.

The manual I just received for my 2007 Bonneville T100 shows 6000 mile maintenance intervals. However, the dealer told me that they tell their customers to bring their bikes in at 4000 mile intervals. I asked why. Near as I understood what he said, it is because they feel most customers are sloppy about bringing their bikes in when they are supposed to. So if they tell them 4000 - they'll get around to it by 6000. To me, that is pure baloney. I've always been very careful to follow maintenance schedules on my bikes. And much as I like these folks, I'm suspecting that they are simply seeking to generate additional service revenue.
Seems like there is at least one other dealer, the one mentioned in this thread, doing the same thing - pushing customers toward 4K service intervals. So what is really up with this? If someone can give me a solid, logical, understandable, preferably technical, reason why I should reduce my service intervals from 6k to 4k - I'll do that! Otherwise, I'm sticking with Triumph's recommendations at each 6k & 12K interval as published in the owner's manual.

6000 is along ways to run oil that gets dirty even if it still works. I change mine at 3000 but thats just me.

You can read all about it at the Triumph website: http://triumph.co.uk/media/908_9_checksheetEN.pdf
The correct answer is 6000 miles / 10000 kms 1 year (whichever comes first).

lindsayt - Apparently factory recommended service intervals changed from 4K to 6K with the '05 models.
A more detailed explanation can be found in this previous thread... http://www.triumphrat.net/bonnie-own...2-dealers.html
