2000 miles on a Thruxton in 5 days
So I buy a 07 Red w/ white stripe Thruxton just before the Laguna Seca GP race and my riding buddy is scared I might want to take that bike and not my Kawasaki ZRX1200r (he is a Honda freak). I test fit my Cortech bags and they fit pretty well so I load up a weeks worth of camping gear and away we go. My buddy is riding his 06 VFR with hard bags (white bike, black bags pretty cool) and we are off to the races and a week of riding and camping via Pashnit.com routes. Every where we stop his VFR is invisible and all the folks want to talk about the Triumph! Up the PCS we went and cut over to the 101 to camp at Benbow lake then up across the 36 (If you never ride any road in California again, ride the 36!) to Red Bluff. 5 North to my in-laws in Yreka for the night then South through Lassen park and all back roads to Fresno. Just under 2000 miles round trip and the Thruxton did everything the Honda did and sometimes I left him in the twistys. Sure, his VFR is one hell of a bike but I feel I have a emotional connection with my Triumph that he can never have with his "superior" Honda.

that's awesome. I did about 1500 in a week a year ago on my bonnie and it was a blast!
My riding partners' bikes were invisible as well!

So didn't you take a camera with you? Pics please! LoL
Sounds like a good ride. Glad to hear the Thrux aquited itself well in company. You might have given your rice-burner buddy a new appreciation for Triumph's.
BTW I do that kind of milage often too. I did around 1200 miles (1800klms) on last weekends Shu-Roo Shakedown ride. & I've put 30,000klms (20,000 miles) on my Scrambler since Jan. With only normal maintenance issues to deal with. So you can expect many more trouble free long distance runs out of your Thrux.
Enjoy

Join Photobucket http://photobucket.com/?link=topmenu & upload your photo's to there. You'll have to resize them if they're over 97kb. & then you can either post the url link, as a thumbnail, or copy & paste the photo directly into the thread.
Hope that helps

I bought the Triumph just for a weekend tinker bike but I like it so much my poor ZRX1200R sits unused.

Great story, Vanson. The Triumph twins definitely can do long trips. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. Just hope your buddy didn't get too jealous about the attention your Thrux got
Looking forward to the photos.

Oh oh. It sounds like we've got another convert to the cause here.
Carefull mate. Triumph's are a hard addiction to overcome. (see JohnyC's thread)
You'll be selling that dust-gathering rice-burner, if this keeps up. LoL
Shame about the pics. They must be huge.
Keep up the long rides, & don't forget to tell us about them.
Ride Safe
