Dirty Weekend-Irish Style.

Evening All , The weekend before last had a great ride. Eight of us took a notion and headed south for Castlegregory, in west Kerry, from Dublin. Round trip of about 500+miles not as the crow flies. The weather was grand till we got to kilkenny then the skies opened and remained that way for the next 36 hours. As they say here "theres no such thing as bad weather only only bad clothes"Needless to say we all brought sufficient protection !!!.Arrived at Castlegregory , about 8 hours later. We had a good few stops the most notable was a quick stopoff at The South Pole inn in Anauscaul, (the pub set up a few generations ago by the well known Irish artic explorer Tom Crean)- (we are not worthy).Had a good night of company and a few pints of mothers milk-Guinness:. Up the following am and after we were happy we were all in a fit legal state to head off we mounted our steeds . The bonnie declined to fire up and had to be pushed to get her going , I am sure this brings back memories to some of the elders that had the original of the species. I think that feckin datatool alarm may be the culprit.Anyway back to Dublin the scenic route via Mallow Fermoy and across to Waterford Despite the bad weather it was a massive trip , the bonnie was made for roads like these. I had a few "O Jaysus" moments the bonnie died a few times when at full tilt, as if it ran out of go go juice. Managed to pull over safely, thanks to this site I was expecting this and was abel to vent the tank via the filler cap. It never happened before so to say the least it was a bit of a fright. Arrived home and the family thought that I had traded in the bonnie for some canal find. It was mankey. That concourse bike I departed on was transformed as a result of the bad weather into something that was pulled out of a skip on the lower east side.During the week I think I spent more time cleaning the bonnie than I have cumitively spent cleaning bikes over the last 20 years. I disabled the datatool alarm while I was at it. Looking forward to the next FAIR weather trip.:

Good ride report, shame about the pics (& the weather). I backpacked your Emerald Isle about 12 years ago. & I was constantly wishing that I had a bike, to explore the back roads properly. Mind you, I took two weeks to make my way from Limerick to Cork, via the coast. & didn't see a cloud in the sky for the whole time! The locals were more blown away than I was, about the weather. They kept telling me that I'd have to come back when it was raining. To see what the place was really like. Unfortunately, I've not been able to make it back there yet. But the upside is that I've got nothing but sunny sky memories, of your little bit 'o heaven.
Ride On

Thanks for the ride-report. Would be even better with photos, and a six-pack of Kilkenny in the post.
