Bike Nite Surprise & the 675
We all go to a local Tiki Bar/ resturant on bike nite. Last nite (after the only HD left) there were only Triumphs there in the lot 5 total. Then a 675 Daytona pulled up. Must be from outa town- never seen it (or any) before. He was supprised to see ALL Triumphs there as were we? Talked w/ him about the 675 & listened to it. What an awesome engine!!! I know Triumph (maybe ) has plans for a naked version on the 675. Its a shame they couldnd do a version w/ a traditional street type frame & the 675 motor. A superior engine & a frame that sorta lookes like a newer version of a Bonne w/ the same handling characteristics? That would be something I MIGHT consider giving up my Bonne for- or letting her become the extra bike? Now if Triumph could just do something about there iffy dealer network in the USA!! A great bike & a lousy dealer = a bad experience.

they do make, and already sell, a naked version of the 675. Dealers already stock them, it's called the "Street Triple" and looks like a baby speed triple.
Nice bikes!

I think he means a frame like a traditional bike. The naked is worlds apart from that and really is just a naked sportbike. But i doubt they would ever build a sort of bonnie/triple hybrid. Personally i wouldn't want it because those engines are nite and day different than a bonnie or rocket or the sort. All the torque is way up high. The opposite of what i want to be sure. I just don't think there are enough people who'd want a high rpm water cooled sportbike engine in a traditional bonnie sort of frame. If there were someone would have done it by now. There are bikes that are somewhat close, but not like that.

I can imagine the howling about the radiators!
Actually, I sat on a Street Triple at the Columbus dealer thinking that the ergos would be far less upright than my old joints could take. Not so! It sits very upright; bars are raised and come back a bit to the rider. Pegs are surprizingly low and sit directly below the knee bend. Seat is large, soft enough.
I'm used to a variety of inline 4s so the torque being higher doesn't bother me. And this is a triple so there may be a bit more low torque than we think. They offered to let me ride it but with all the touring I do I didn't want to be tempted. Carrying much stuff on it would be a real challenge.
Anyway, it looks good for the naked street fighter that it is, and has good ergos even for an oldster.

Buy it! Buy it! Buy it, Monte! You don't have to ride it fast .... not too fast, anyway. And no mods necessary.

Maybe
You may have hit it Daz? I am just an old biker & the new style doesnt do much for me? The 675 motor seems to be an awesome piece of macherinerey. The upright seating position is MANDATORY for me. Too many broken backs!! I may have to check out the naked 675 if I can find a dealer that is open & has anything in stock. Gotta drive to Ft Lauderdale to get to a REAL Triumph dealer here.Thats 1 1/2 hrs from here! It was pretty cool seeing all those Triumphs all together @ one small little biker resturant/ bar & no Harleys. There werre people commong off the street to ask questions!! Like it was aa show or some thing. Just a few olld farts havin dinner after a nice ride- oh & the 675. Dont know where he came from? Bike on porch- goin ridin ALL day tommorrow!! Nite all>>>>>>

You'd probably like the Street's seating position just fine, then. I have to stretch my arms just a tiny bit farther than with the Bonneville, but it's far more comfortable on the back than my Speed Triple was.
And that motor IS awesome. The Street Triple version has less HP than the Daytona, but spreads the torque band down lower in the RPM range. It's a very usable bike. With factory standard exhaust, it's also a very sweet sounding powerplant!
You can visit us down in the Street Triple forum and read several first impressions from those of us who received ours recently. Lots of pictures, too.

Good luck finding one right now. Triumph is still busy making and delivering units pre-ordered during the priority reservation program, during July-September. Only a certain percentage of dealers got one outside the reservation program. I seem to recall reading that Ft Lauderdale was one such location; but I have no idea whether they went ahead and sold it, or kept it as a demonstrator.
I think Triumph under-estimated the demand for this one. They anticipated the current downturn in the motorcycle market and did not schedule all that much production, especially for the new model. There's something to be said for avoiding Harley's boom-and-bust approach, but it's not always convenient for us consumers. My own dealer tells me they are not likely to be able to order one for themselves until late winter or maybe spring. Fortunately, I did place my reservation and received mine a couple of weeks ago.

My local dealer get's his first street triple demonstrator next week. & I think I might go & swing a leg over it. A Daytona 675 was what first drew me into a Triumph showroom. But I knew I couldn't live with the ride position, & ended up with my Scrambler instead (a choice I've never regretted). But if they've haven't tamed that motor too badly, for street purposes, I think the new upright ride position, could put it back in to the mix, as a contender. Not as a replacement for my Scrambler, but as a second bike for carving up the ranges. So it'd be more of a replacement for the Ducati Hypermotard I just stopped lusting after. & consequently, I'd have to start another saving fund for one. Which means I won't be getting one anytime soon, whatever I think of my test ride. But it'll give me something to dream about, & work towards. So that's a good enough reason for a test ride for me.
