Shu-Roo Shakedown

No. It's not the long awaited comeback hit for Ricky Martin (sorry ladies). But my days ride in search of fauna to frighten with my new fangled bke gizmo. Only first I had to cross the Great Dividing Range. 'Cause there ain't no Roo's around here. & I could tell from the veiw from my bedroom balcony, that the mountains were going to be wet

& when I saw this, at the base of the Gillies. I was glad I brought my Wets

The Gillies Range was challenging. & I had my first heart-in-mouth moment in months, when the back wheel lost grip on a wet white line, & reminded me why I hate early Wet Season conditions.
The Shu-Roo's mounting system needs improving, as it pushes back against the speedo, aiming the unit too high in the air. But I'll wait until my new screen gets here next week, to sort it out properly.
I couldn't wait to cross the wet tablelands, across the Great Divide, & into the sunshine. & Roo country.

Unfortunately the Roo's weren't being co-operative, & the only marsupial I saw was a smalll wallaby, who shot across the road about 400m ahead, which is the right range, for the Shu-Roo, but it ran the wrong way. So I'm calling that a half success.
Eventually I came to the old mining town of Irvinebank.

Where I had to spend the next hour, as the only shop/pub/servo in town doesn't open (for anyone) before midday!!
Will I ever find a Roo to scare?

Irvinebank Interlude

I spent my hour in Irvinebank, avoiding the local rednecks (scary individuals) & checking out the sights

Until the hour was up, & I could escape Irvinebank's clutches.
Now where are those Roo's?

Irvinebank to Chillagoe

The dirt road from Irvinebank to Petford is 40klms of Scrambler heaven. It had had a lot of rain, so all the creeks were running, & there were a few washouts, but the Scram just ate it up, like we were going down the shops for some groceries.
I came across many old abandoned stations, where the only sign of old habitation were the old Flame Trees. Like this one.

Of course it's not all beer & skittles out tha way.

But there are plenty of intersting old mining camps to explore.

Until I reached the bitumin of the new Mareeba to Chillagoe Rd.

But I still didn't see a single Roo.

Chillagoe

I arrived in Chillagoe (another old mining town)

& had a few refreshments

Before checking out the lunar landscape.

& the local limestone cave system.

Before I resumed my Roo Hunt.

Home

I had to re-fuel at Chillagoe & came across this old local with the most amazing Ford collection I've ever seen.
I first noticed the line of WWII trucks.

I then noticed that his whole shed was full of rare & valuable Fords. Like this '54 Customline & '66 Mustang GT350

Not far out of town a couple of small wallaby's shot out from behind a rock. One went in front of the bike, while the other went behind. & how we didn't collide, I don't think any of us know.
I'm still unsure if that's a Shu-Roo failure, as the rock would have blocked the sound. & as the unit needs to be aimed properly, I still think there's room for improvement.
On the way home. I was having so much fun, I thought my bike was on fire.

But no more Roos
So I didn't get to test if the Shu-Roo works or not. But I had a really good day trying. Though I think my bike needs a wash now.

That's good honest Aussie mud on that bike Mate! & I've got just as much on me too. So I'm going to have a shower & go to bed. I'm stuffed!
Ride On

Scratcher,

Since you did not see many roos, maybe it works REALLY, REALLY well.

That's the focal point of this whole tale. The Shu-Roo!
You'll have to read my first thread about it on the Bonnie forum, to find out more. I can't be bothered going through it again now.
I've had my shower, & I'm off to bed.

It appears that you live in Paradise and next door to Scrambler Heaven. We here in the cold flatlands of Ohio are envious, but please keep the pictures and descriptions coming.
