Idea For A Chrome Tank
The yellow/black bike on another thread gave me an idea.
Is it possible to "chrome" the Sixty8 Tank Cover? Are they metal?
How much like "chrome" is the Aluminum Silver Tank Cover?
It wouldn't be the same as this, though.

gg - as far as I know, plastic can be chromed... can look good that way too!
Do a google search for "chrome plastic" quite a bit of stuff pops up including vendors who offer the service...
That tank piece chromed could be cool indeed...
Cheers,

Good feedback, as usual, from you two, thanks.
I like my magnetic tank bag so retaining the metal tank is important.
Perhaps someday I'll buy another tank and have it chromed.
Until then, I'll keep looking at alternatives.
This is the ultimate goal...

My 1964 BSA Spitfire Scrambler with A10 engine came with a chrome/candy apple red paint job on the fuel tank. Some of the guys who owned similar bikes had the paint removed ..... Viola! ..... underneath the paint was chrome! Like pulling up cruddy wall to wall carpet and finding beautiful hardwood floors. However, the paint on the old Beezers was really nice too, so I decided to leave mine painted.
Since these bikes were 'naked', in today's terminology, they only had a couple of main focal points ... engine and fuel tank. And the Brits had these two visual points done to a "T". Just the thought of owning a motorcycle manufactured by a company called Birmingham Small Arms made the bike that much more alluring to me. To remind me of that fact, an emblem of stacked rifles was molded into the right side engine case.
Sorry to go off-topic, but just the sight of the Gold Star tank and BSA emblem brought it all back to me, from 42 years ago.
Was the chrome really that deep?
Thanks.
Bob

Why would you put a BSA badge on a Triumph?
Do you like confusing people, or something?

"Old Scratcher," no, definitely no need for BSA badging. But I sure would like a tank with similar style of that BSA one. Like "ohiorider" this tank has always had an appeal to my eye.

you could have your tank chromed and painted, I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap but it could be done.

No argument there. I think nobody captured that 60's look better than BSA. Their bikes were always head-turners, & still are today. I'm just not sure how one would look on a Triumph. But then, that's why it's such an interesting world. We don't all like the same things. So if it's what your dream machine needs to complete the look you want. Go for it. Sceptics like me will probably have to eat our words anyway, when you show us the stunning results. Though holding costs down would be the biggest challenge.

How Much Is A Dream Worth!
Scratch, Sweat,
Yeah, you're both right, chroming a tank won't be cheap. Sadly, these "ideas" tend to gnaw at me, and over time I eventually give in and then decide to throw perfectly good money at a bad idea! If/when I do it, you'll get a chance to "vote" on the results.
