Marking on TORS

Does anyone know whether the TOR exhausts are actually marked 'not for road use' ? I ask because my local MOT tester says that the new rules in the UK say that if they are marked as such the bike will fail the noise test. If they are not marked then he can use his descretion on whether they are too loud to pass and would probably pass the TORS.

Yes TORs have a marking on them, cannot remember if it is "Not for road use" or "Off road use only". But either way, it is a small spot that could easily "looked over" and "missed"...

Both my sets have Not For Road Use on them, but my MOT man also said ' If you cover that up with some ali tape they are not allowed to remove it to look'

Just keep the originals for MOT time. Doesn't take long to change them over.

Got your stock oem cans? It only takes a few minutes to pull the TORs and install the 'legit' ones. Pass your test, and switch back to the TORs. It's not like they're all that loud anyway, just that they won't pass the ever tighter noise regs. I keep my originals on hand, 'just in case'.

I can't imagine this would ever be an issue. I have the short TORS, and at low RPMs the noise issue is nix. Don't worry about it.

I have always been amazed at the number of people that change exhaust and get rid of the stock cans. The DMV here wont pass anything that is not stock or stock looking so your tors wouldn't have a problem here.

It does vary from state to state . I heard CA is a nightmare right now . NJ is silly . As long as you have Baffles and reflective tape on your helmet ( stupid).
A lot of shops that do inspection usually won't fail you for an Aftermarket or "OffRoad" exhaust.

California has no scheduled inspections. No worries.

I just had an inspection last week to get my salvage title. I passed easily, even with Lucas taillight and turn signals, and Predators. They didnt even check if the lights or horn worked. I did have to plug the charcoal cannister hoses back on, but that wasnt a problem as I never actually removed the can.

I have witnessed a tester fail a bike on first glance in the UK for haveing pipes marked "for off road use" so put your standard pipes back for the test, I intend to. If you don't have standard pipes there are some available on ebay
