Holy Crap!! Don't try to stand up at 30mph
Here I thought it was a good day to ride. I've got a Govt. owned vehicle with free gas, but it was way too nice here in southern Florida yesterday, so I to the bike for some work related errands. Ran down to the Sheriff's office, did some police checks came back up into town and went to a bike shop got a spoke tightener, then decided to take an early lunch. That's when it all went down. I was making a left turn into the parking lot, there was a slight dip where the blacktop meets the concrete sidewalk and I stood up a little, then I stood up alot as my left foot peg snapped off and my foot came in contact with the ground. So I immediately went into "**** myself" mode, dodged a curb, parked car and the front end of an oncoming bohemuth of a SUV. I finally got stopped and into a parking slot, stood around for a minute or two while my huevos dropped back into place and then went back and picked up my foot peg and notice it wasn't the foot peg that broke, but the bracket that holds it snapped. It's gonna take 3 business days to get it in and it's $30. It probably got damaged when the jackass in TX knocked it over, but it's taked 4 months for the stress to finally let it go. So if you drop your bike you may want to think about replacing that part as well. Just a thought.

Whoa....
Crazy man. Nice save. On long roadie's I've often stood up going 60+ to stretch. If I had a peg failure at that speed I'd still be in the ditch. Hope your part shows up in a timely fashion.

...........did you have to change your underwear - uh, on the other hand dont tell me....lol
These foot pegs on these bikes are absolutely horrible. I got hit my a tire tread and ripped my foot peg right off. If you get a chance replace them.

Cynr - Sure glad you were able to pull out of that one... I bet you topped the pucker scale. Was it the cast piece that's attached to the frame that snapped?

Peg
Hey Trav you are havingyour share of bad luck!! That one sounds scary!!! Iwas gonna ask if you wanted t oride tommorrow but it seems like that is not possible? Finally got my new tire & brakes. Used the sintered pads this time. The rotor is crap on these bikes so I will get some miles outa this one & do a full rdo on the next tire. Let me know the next time youare in full operation? How did the spoke issue work out? Wherre did the peg actually break. I will have to check mine. Sounds like a scary experience! Be careful- want to see & your bike again!!

It wasn't the cast piece that broke, but the part that the peg sets into and the pin goes through, the kinda square tubing looking thingy. I'm fairly sure it's steel but the bolt on the back of it broke. Probably just extended a stress fracture in it from the layover from "get er dun" it just took a while to snap. I seriously thought about it every time I went over a set of railroad tracks and stood up, and thankfully it never happened there. the pucker factor was about at 7. Which is fairly low, but considering my occupation, I've experienced enough that my pucker factor is altered from the mean average. Don, I was hoping to make it up today or tomorrow, but once this happened, all plans are off. I also found out that I was "voluntold" to attend the Dolphins/Bills game, I know this doesn't sound horrible to most of you, but I hate sports and crowds, so it's a fate worse than a root canal. Part should be in next week, get it fixed up and I'll be up in Stuart to see you.

Man that sucks! I had my right one break, they are made of pure pot metal. They aren't WAF in my opinion. I went to LSL rearsets.

I want rearsets but don't have the change. I think the mrs would have been unhappy if I'd got the rearsets instead of the tickets home for christmas!! Who'd you get your rearsets through?

BellaCorse, they were the cheapest by a couple of bucks. Nice product though, you get what you pay for.
I was really disappointed at how cheap the stock foot pegs are made.

I got the LSL's from Mototwin. Pricey but very well made and light. Hyde do some that are more in keeping with the vintage look.
Don, you said: "Used the sintered pads this time. The rotor is crap on these bikes so I will get some miles outa this one & do a full rdo on the next tire."
The sintered pads can chew the rotor up, but the EBC floating disc is made to stand up to them. It's a really noticable improvement in braking. Not sure how sensible it is to go for sintered with the stock rotor - you might find you're forced to change the rotor before you were planning to
