Speed Triple or Daytona 675?
I know, I know, this doesn't have to do with Bonnevilles, but you folks have never steered me wrong. Since I crashed my 955i I have been searching for a suitable stable mate for my Bonnie. I have great prices on '07 Speed Triple and Daytona 675. I like features from both and each have minuses as well. I would like your opinions please!

If you like both bikes, have you considered the Street Triple 675? That seems to be best of both worlds. A somewhat easier comparison would be a Daytona 675 vs. Street Triple, to which I would say it's mostly about appearance and riding position since the engines are substantially the same. But the Speed Triple has a lot more cc's, more torque and more weight than the 675, and they are very different bikes. Not as different as comparing the Bonneville to either of them, but still very different bikes.
Your 955i was what, a Speed Triple 955i or a Daytona 955i? If you could stand riding the Daytona 955i, then you would have no problem with the Daytona 675.
At the age of 50, I can no longer tolerate the riding position of a pure sportbike like the Daytona 675 (or Honda CBR1000RR, Benelli Tornado, Ducati 999, etc.). The Speed Triple has a much more upright riding position, but is otherwise a sportbike without a fairing. The Daytona 675 is a racing bike with lights, has a full fairing, and is absolutely stunning to look at, IMO. In the end, however, I view the two bikes as apples and oranges, and picking one of them over the other comes down to your priorities.

Well Brooksie, I better get in quick before Monte moves you. But I think it comes down to what the + & - are for you, & where you'll be mainly using the bikes. If you've got lots of tight twisty roads to carve up, the 675 would be more nimble. But the speed triple would be a better long-distance, high-speed, mile-eater. Your physical shape, & how comfortably it slots onto either bike, should also be factored in.
Personally I'd go for the 675. Mainly because I like light lithe bikes that can be chucked about easilly, but also because I don't like modern naked's (they look incomplete to me). But that's just a personal opinion.
Don't forget to let us know what you end up choosing. & pics would be good too.
Good luck.

My God Brooksie, I can't tell you how much I envy someone in the position of having to make this sort of decision. Some day it'll be me I suppose.
Anyway, what the others have said is all true. My 2-cents would be about riding location: If you're only riding on the street, then I'd reco the S3; if you find yourself at the track, even occasionally, then it would be the D675. It would be that simple.
Well that and the avail colors I suppose. The burnt yellow of the D675 is pretty hard to resist.

I knew my home boys would give me thoughts!! My 955i was a Daytona, and at 51, the stock bike was a wrist bursting rack of pain. With Heli Bars, it became a very comfortable bike for town or distance. I have considered waiting for the Street Triple, but I can get the Speed for $800.00 more and it has all the bells and whistles suspension and brake wise. I can get the 675 for $200.00 more than the Street. I do like the chuckability of the 675, insurance for an old fart like me is under $275.00 a year and Triumph does have some luggage for it. I plan to keep my Bonnie forever and do not want to rack up lots of miles on her, about 3k per year, and use it for linger trips. There are Heli Bars for the 675. The Speed Triple just has that glorious motor and some handle bars and needs nothing for comfort. I am leaning toward the D675 but is this Speedy just too good to pass up? No track days for me. The gray D675 is available. The S3's are Black or White. Thanks for the feedback crew!

I would go for the Speed Triple. Nothing, except it's little brother the Street Triple, looks like it, it's comfortable, and it's just a bad a$$ bike. I want one so bad I can taste it, but have to wait until I make more money. Good luck with your decision. Can't go wrong with a Triumph after all!

You can get a speed triple, or something that looks like every other sport bike out there.

I always come in on the side of
light weight mid bore bikes so the daytona it is, but I will say that make mine a street triple. I must admit though that if I were going to get either new, I would wind up getting both (used) for the same money. and you could pull this off money wise if you have the garage space.

I have one of each. They are both tremendous bikes and have their advantages and disadvantages. The 675 is slightly quicker then the S3 and when you get over 230 kph the aerodynamics make a difference and it will get up to top speed quicker. It also handles better than the S3, but unless you are a fast group track day rider, you`ll be unable to notice the difference. Comfort wise, the 675 is OK for long distance at speed but is terrible around town. After 20 mins in slow traffic I'm aching all over and it really cranks out a lot of heat from under the seat. The S3 is a much better all rounder, I`ve toured on it, done 950km`s in a day and it`s great for commuting, scratching or stunting too. It`s one of those bikes that has 'grin factor' and makes you smile every time you get on it. Neither of them are particularly good for pillion work but again if I had to carry a passenger I`d pick the S3. Hope this is some help, feel free to PM me if you need any more info.
