Triumph Classics: The Ultimate Q Bike?
Has anybody else noticed that cops don't notice Triumph Classic's on the road? I've been waved through heaps of bike-blitz's, where the cops are pulling over every sports/tourer they see & putting them through the 3'rd degree. I've only had one speeding, so far (touch wood). & the cops were alomost apologetic about booking me. Telling me that they weren't really after us old blokes on our old bikes, & they'd let me off. But it was a long weekend, there'd already been a fatality, & their Inspector was on their case. I've never had such a friendly encounter with cops, while dressed in leathers.
I think it's because a lot of non-bikers (cops included) think these classics are restored old Triumph's, & I've often had people approach me at service stations (an unusual event for a biker, by itself) & complement me on the resto job I've (not) done.
So provided you're not actually breaking the law when they see you, the cops tend to leave us "old bikers" alone. Great! Ain't it? & another good reason to ride a Hinkley Twin.

I've had similar experiences. Lots of times people will say: "That's a nice old bike - beut condition - what year is it?" They're, I think, disappointed to discover it's new...
As for the cops, thankfully it doesn't feel slow at the same speeds my old Speed Triple did so I'm not pushing my luck so often.

I had one of our local police following me somewhat more closely than I like, so I was wondering what was on his mind. He pulled up next to me at the light, rolled down his window, called me by name, (guess the DMV system really works), and said he wanted to buy a Bonnie. Hopefully, that's one lawman that'll allow me some margin for error as I cruise across town.

I don't know if thats true, but i must admit i went right by a cop who had his radar gun aimed at oncoming traffic and i was going 55 in a 40 or 45 zone and he didn't even seem to consider me for stoppage. Hope yer right...

That's weird, I got pulled over by a cop a couple weeks ago for going through a light that was changing. He didn't give a hoot about the bike, but let me go anyways.
I think if cops see you're not jackassing around on a bike they give you some slack, regardless of type or brand.

Yep, twenty years of riding and not a single fine - a few warnings and roadside conversations though...on all kinds of bikes: Classics, modern classics, dirt bikes and a few Jap sportbikes, but nothing like a crotch rocket.
...until I bought one of those stupid Suzuki Supermotard things.
2 fines in 2 months with no change in riding behaviour.
Ran like crap and was a cop magnet.
I really bought the Scram just to get rid of the POS.
Cheers

The local Sheriff struck up a conversation with me when he saw my Bonneville parked at a store. He admired the bike and said he has always yearned to buy a BMW flat twin but now has to entertain one more option. Whenever I see him, he goes out of his way to speak and I always urge him to take the plunge. He's certainly a decent guy and I think his positivity is reflected by his entire department.

First week I had my bike, puttering down the Minnehaha Parkway (speed limit 25, I was going 27, maybe) I get pulled over. Officer wanted to check out my ride, he used to have a Triumph, do they still make them, you know the drill...
Freaked me at first, but then I considered it a pleasure and a connection.
