Cleaning tips?

Sorry if this has been already posted, but I was looking at some of the bikes in the picture thread. Some look alot cleaner than others. I like to keep mine clean. Any good tips on cleaning, especially the hard to get to/hard to clean areas?

I have always used S100 Total Bike Cleaner on my bikes. It is easy to use and works well. I read somewhere that Pig Spit was good so I bought some of that crap and I have yet to try it because I'm to busy riding and don't care how dirty she gets right now. I figure that cleaning her will be part of the yearly Winter project.

My personal cleaning habit.....for the bike anyway.....

ride more, clean less. I don't own a trailer queen. I own a motorcycle.... I don't think i have ever washed mine except the area that was needing serviced at the time. i don't care what it looks like. It is not meant to be prettier than me!

S100 Total Bike Cleaner - I've heard that's great stuff, but I hate ordering stuff like that online - I just wish I could find it locally, so much easier.

But it is fun getting packages every now and then that don't have naughty movies in them...

Clean

I dry clean only! Bonnes don't like water. A little after every ride will keep her lookin good. People always bust my but- say all I do is clean my bike. Not true I just do a little as said after or before every ride. It always looks halfway decent? When I am waiting for warmup I wipe the pipes & chrome - dust the rest. It aint showroom, but loks better than most?

Hey Don, this may be a really stupid question, but what do you mean with dry clean? Do you use dry wipes or something? Doesn't that put zillions of small scratches in the paint and chrome, with dirt-particles being wiped along?

I appreciate those of you that don't clean rather just ride .
However, I just use my bikes for fun on the week-end. This is my routine after every day of riding.
First this, while the bike is still hot, I lube the chain with chain wax. I soak it then i wipe it all off. I only want it to soak into the o rings and this process keeps the chain clean. 10 minutes. Mabye less.
Next glaze/wax painted areas.Do not remove yet. 10 minutes
Next clean wheels, spokes, frame, black parts with 303 protectant, 10 minutes.
Next polish alloy with never dull. Motor is still hot but it still works well.10 minutes.
Wax pipes and chrome valve covers, 3 minutes.
Wipe entire bike down removing wax and never dull. 10 minutes.
Spray lexon on seat and leave it . ( Wipe off before next ride)
Entire process is less than an hour. I do this because I like to check for loose nuts, wires, spokes and so on. I also never use water. On occasion I might get engine cleaner for the motor and just spray the motor and nothing else. This is sort of like a spring cleaning.

Drew-

Most motorcycle shops carry S-100 since it is probably THE hands down best thing you can use to get the greasy stuff off your engine, sidestand, wheels, etc.

Get on down to Atlanta Triumph Ducati and see if they have it. Even if they don't, there are other fun places to visit in the immediate vacinity (like next door).
