The price we pay for good roads

I like to ride on roads with good surfaces. But do I hate it when I'm out riding my favorite roads and start running into "one lane closed", "flagman ahead", "loose gravel", "chip and seal", etc.

During my 200 mile ride on the T100 today, I made at least 3 U turns to avoid riding over this sticky, tarry, gravelly stuff. A couple of times I was into it before I could take evasive action. Oh, well, WD40 to the rescue.

Must be a lot of elections coming up for county road commissioners here in the Buckeye State ..... road resurfacing is in overdrive.

Still - a great ride combined with beautiful weather and a really sweet running bike. (She turned 24,000 today).

I wish i would have been able to remove the dent in my alloy wheel from the pothole i hit about a year ago with some WD40 ! Savor those oily roads.....they're better than dented $600.00 wheels !

Daz, as usual, you do bring it into perspective! I guess it was just the shock of seeing roads being repaired this late in the year ..... normally, the 'orange barrel' season around here is late March thru May. Then they leave us alone until next year.

In Washington State I've noticed more and better placement of this big, orange sign:

Motorcyclists
Use caution

They mean it, and I appreciate it. I'd still rather avoid those stretches, but in the bottlenecked Puget Sound there are some places where the slab is the only alternative.

I suppose it's too much to ask, but I'd love to see them grind and re-pave a narrow motorcycle lane before proceeding on to the rest of the road. That expensive little idea wouldn't play well, I'm sure.
