I don't know,Sweat. I stole that pic from here:

I thought you guys might get a kick out of seeing it. It sounds like the guy who took the pic never heard it run either.
I know what you mean about raspy. I never liked the sound of straight pipes much myself, although out of necessity(read:cheapness),I have run them lots of times over the years. In fact my '68 Tiger has straight pipes right now, because I stole the silencers to put on a '71 Bonneville that I sold a while back.
Plus,as short as those pipes are, unless he's got a baffle,or some kind of restriction in there,it's got to be killing his low end and midrange.Still got the AI hooked up too,so bets are he hasn't done any kind of tuning to try to match the pipes.
It does look pretty cool though. Reminds me of every scrambler (Triumph,BSA,Honda, you name it)running around back in the '60s and '70s.The first thing you did was ditch the mufflers. The hot ticket back then was to install"Snuff-or-nots"which were little butterflys that fit inside the pipes. You could open 'em up for loud,or close 'em,for "quiet" Some guys hooked up cables to 'em so they could open or close 'em on the move.
Hmm.........
Thanks for those links Mal. I guess I just didn't page back far enough. I thought it would be closer to the front.

Cheers!
