For riders in Eastern Ohio
I generally ride south of New Phila or Wooster, and have an entire library of good rides there. Today when I left the BMW dealer in New Philly, I decided to run east on US 250 for a while, then head north. I picked up SR 646 and rode into Scio, Ohio (nice ... it rhymes). I continued East on 646, which is called New Rumsey Road.
I needed to be heading north, but the road was so nice for at least 20 miles, I said to he11 with going north .... east is just fine.
For any of you Eastern Ohio Buckeye riders that like sweet, twisty, hilly roads, give this one a try.
BTW - the weather today didn't hurt a thing .... spectacular, and it was real! Sorry ... a flashback to an old Seinfeld show.
Bob

Hey, Bob: will try that route one of these days. Meanwhile, Saturday we are going down SR93 from W. Lafayette to SR83, take it south below I-70 to SR78, hang a right into McConnelsville, south on SR13 to Athens, east on SR550 to Marietta and north on I-77 to home, BUT, and you should meet us there, we'll hang a right on US36 to SR416, then first left (Fry's Valley Road) to Fry's Valley Moravian church where they are having their annual car show and BBQ. We'll be there about 6pm. If you go earlier, the car show starts at 2:30 and the Chicken BBQ is from 4 to 7pm.

Monte - thanks for the invite. If I wasn't already heading to the sports car races at MidOhio, I'd be on the bike heading your way right now! Sounds like you guys have a great day planned. The roads you're riding are super!

Haven't been thru Chillicothe for years, so I'm not the right person to ask. It is south of Columbus, and flat as the rest of the Midwest. The good riding in Ohio is in the eastern part of the state, for the most part, since that's in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains.

Actually, Bob, what you say about Chillicothe is true, 'cause it lies in the Scioto Valley. But less than 10 miles to the east lies Tar Hollow State park and the beginning of the Hocking Hills, which is what he is referring to (Old Man's Cave, etc.) Much of the area is state forest land. We have used Chillicothe as a base camp for riding east of there. The riding in those hills, south of Lancaster, SW of Logan, etc. is excellent: full of curves, lots of twisties, good roads and nice steep hills, all the way south to Athens. It is very much like the area east of the line from Zanesville to Athens and then east to I-77. Dustin headed up a Packless Rats ride through there late last summer and everybody enjoyed it. Some good riding there as well. I'm sure the fall leaf viewing there would be every bit as good as around here.

Monte - didn't consider how close these great riding areas are located to Chillicothe, since I start all my rides from the NE corner of the state. But you certainly being up a good point ... the Hocking Hills area is a really fine place to ride.

Been there years ago, in the state park(Old mans cave) the canyon left me breathless in awe. I got the info you two were sharing, wife and I planning roadtrip soon. Need to stay semi-close to home , Dad is very ill.

If you need more details on specific roads, let us know. You can PM me once you know where you will be staying, etc. If you stayed at someplace like Zanesville, which would be only a few more miles than going down to Chillicothe, you would open up areas, including the Hocking Hills, that you could ride in for a month and still have lots of good roads left unridden.
Monte
Sorry about your Dad, but I have been through that and know how hard it is to make time for the R&R we need to keep going. But you do need to do it, and I can think of nothing better to clear the head and soul than a road trip.
