Thanks for all of the advice, I did clean the carbs out, blew the jets clean, checked the floats and balanced. now everything ran evenly, still very rich, so I am chaning from 122's to 115's and turning the idle screws to 2.0 turns

**** this high elevation.

Will report after this is done and dyno'd.

Come To The Darkside

The airbox is the problem. Throw it in the bin where it belongs.

The airbox will go away next spring. This winter I will pull the old one and start making one out of aluminum.

Unless someone wants to send me the dimensions of their NARK box.

Sounds like you'll have this licked soon, mr_ badda_bing. It'd be interesting to see your next dyno run to see how much difference some fettling did to the figures without changing any of the actual components.

+1 here. I've been looking at the airbox elim kits and they look very nicely made but they're crazy money in the UK - something anyone with some sheet aluminium and basic tools should be able to make over the winter - good enough to do the job anyway. I'd go for some basic brackets to replace the existing ones for various electrical bits, but a full replacement box with enough room for tools and a set of waterproof leggings sounds ideal. It's also be a great place for putting a DIY power outlet because small stuff that's being charged off it would fit in the box alongside it.

I want to make one that has the storage place. I never thought about a power outlet there. Fantastic idea. Now to find an airbox for cheap to measure and use as a mock up.

There's a nice big piccie of one on the jenksbolts.com site:

http://www.triumph-bonneville.com/images/Box%202.jpg

I'll be copying this one as it has the wee door for the storage box . Once the salt is on the roads and the bike is in bed for the winter, I'll remove the OEM part and measure the fittings and the outside dimensions directly from that.

This is a lot more hassle than gutting the stock box with a dremel, but I want to be able to return the bike to bone stock if needed.
