New to this site but not to bikes. (How about a kickstart conversion)

I would love to see a kickstart conversion kit made for a new Triumph twin that would allow you to use electric or kick. Does any one know if they are in the works?

Welcome to the Rat. And while your question HAS been asked before, the answer is still the same.

welcome to T R N.
Don't worry about RodBurner. He laughing with you not at you.
actually that's not true. He is laughing at you, but you still shouldn't worry.

It is just that we have heard this before.

There is no "kit" available and there won't be one in the future.
Sorry to break the news to you. (Pssss,....they just look like they're old. don't tell anybody)

Welcome aboard. Glad to see you have sence of humor.
You'll fit in fine.

Here you go .......doh, wrong bike!

I owned the W650 for seven years, and rarely used the kick start, except at certain select moments. Sometimes used it before starting in cold weather with the clutch pulled in to free up the clutch plates. http://s115.photobucket.com/albums/n...sed&interval=3

Has anyone used a little bit of old fashioned ingenuity to modify a bonnie for kick start? I don't have enough understanding of how a kickstart works to tear my engine apart and start modifying myself. Some of us would really like to have a kickstart on our not old but old looking bikes.

the right side drive makes it tough, and I don't know enough about this but certain ignitions will NOT work with kickstarts. I know on some Harleys for some reason the coils will not fire (when the bike is off) unless the crank goes around 2 times. Try kicking the bike once and spinning the crank twice. I'm not saying the bonnie's ignition is like that, but if it is you'd have an easier time fitting the actual kickstarter than you would modifying the ignition. There's really nowhere to mount it, unless you made a custom sprocket cover to house the unit and then I'd think the small bolts that hold the sprocket cover on could not withstand the force of the kicking. You'd also probably have to modify/swap out the output shaft which would require taking some stuff apart...

If it could be done it would be so prohibitively expensive that you would only see one offs, no aftermarket manufacturer would touch it.

BTW, I want one too.

Maybe you could jsut duct tape one on so it looked like it had one. Then when you push the start button you could jump up and down.

I believe I did see a mock kick start lever for some type of bike somewhere - ABSURD!
My current Triumph is the first bike I've ever had without a kicker. The small amount of "machismo" I have was disappointed about it but soon recovered. I really do not miss a kicker, and if the electric starting system remains sound, which I think it will, I will miss it even less.

Thats a great question. Also does anyone know where I can get a hand crank starter conversion for my Toyota Tacoma?
