I traded a perfectly good Bonneville SE for another perfectly good classic Triumph from Hinckley, as I've done a few time before over the past 11 years. But this time, I have something truly new and different - a new Street Twin. It's not even the same motorcycle as the Bonneville, SE or T100 classic bikes from 2015 and earlier. I am really happy to have jumped into the Street Twin. Debated for a few weeks regarding my preferred color choice, especially between silver verses red, and even polled the entire office staff for their opinion. Their consensus was the same as my initial reaction - the aluminum silver model conveys its own overall emotion where I feel the silver tank, brushed silver exhausts and headers, red tank logo and red tire rim paint, black and chrome bits all just complement each other. (But I can easily see the red Street Twin inspiring the same attraction for its buyer. And, no doubt the same felling by the guys into the gloss or matte black ones. Here's a photo of mine. Regards.
Major Congrats! I have had mine since January 27 & it is the best do-it-all bike I have ever had. I picked between red & silver & took the red one! Enjoy it...it is a blast of fun. The handling & great torque will never put you in a "bad spot"
Sat on one and heard it fired up today. Too cold and tons of salt in the road so no test ride yet. Loved, loved the sound. Also fired up a 2016 Scrambler with the Arrows pipe on it which sounded sweet too. I'd put the exhaust note of the ST right up there with the Scrambler. Pretty sure I sat on my next bike today.
I have had 8 bikes & this is the first one where only 2 minor changes are needed. (1) change out turn indicators (2) replace lockable gas cap (pain) with a regular Bonnie one. Yes, the exhaust sound is awesome...wait till you hear the throaty growling on every down-shift. And the torque & handling separates it from previous Bonnies. Sorry to current owners...just an observation as I had a 2011 Bonnie that I just sold.
Congratulations on the fantastic bike! I had the chance to test ride a silver Street Twin this week and had a great time with the bike. Handling and low-down power was really impressive. I also took some pictures and can definately recommend the superb LED indicators.
I agree about the red tank accent. I traded in a silver Bonneville Se with the super fat tank, in exchange for this appropriately sized small gas tank on the Street Twin.
I went ahead and traded my 2015 Boonneville SE because: (1) I thought it makes more sense to ride with ABS and traction control, considering overall safety; (2) I have a strong desire to ride a lighter bike that weighs less than the 2015 and earlier classic twins; (3) new frame allows for a low seat height, which I prefer; (4) I much prefer the smaller gas tank, and always felt the recent fat tanks on Bonnevilles was odd looking; (5) greatly increased fuel economy and water cooling appeals to me; (6) awesome sound with the stock exhausts, sounds a lot like Predator exhausts; (7) I rode a Street Twin and can compare to my 2015 bike with an Arrow exhaust, air box removed, and K&N air filters, and was really impressed with the Street Twin's stock performance, in comparison; (8) after owning a number of new classic Triumphs that generally differed only in color, I was ready for the new technology in the Street Twin.
I think you will like the ST based upon the weight reduction in your previous bike. Yes, a bike can be too light. Look at the Scrambler Ducati, it is approximately 20lbs lighter than the ST. The Ducati also has a slightly higher COG. That bike is unstable at higher speeds. Triumph really trumped the competition by pulling off a great 4 years of engineering. My buddy has the Ducati & we ride together 2-3 times a week. We have swapped bikes...I hate his Ducati Scrambler & he loves the ST. There is no comparison. While the Ducati is OK on smooth canyon roads, the ST is smooth just about anywhere. And the ST has more torque & is better geared than the Duc. Something that has not been said, I think, the ST is extremely easy to shift gears. Not clicky or clunky...just smooth. Those waiting for the Thruxtons & 1200's will be happy. I just wanted a better handling bike & the ST fits me.
nice bike with these V&H. My dealer has equipped one of the machines in his shop with the same
the muffler quality seems excellent. sound (inside the shop) is pleasant.
but the sound of an original version is also very nice. yet he would listen outside because the noise of the machine inside the store is not what is best.
I see you got your ST at Select Cycles. I run the big brewery right down the street. Stop in for a pint sometime. I would like to see it in person (and meet you of course). Do they have anymore on the floor?
Triumph's ability to create a bike that makes people want to socialize with the bike's owner has always been one of their greatest features. Glad to see they've achieved that with the New Line.
P.S. Unfortunately, of course the "Old Triumph Guy" encounters are going increase exponentially with the added "Old Hinckley Triumph Guy" encounters.
I can imagine if they fitted it with a non plastic brake reservoir there would be some people complaining about it and trying to find an aftermarket plastic one to make it look more authentic
Has science verified that brakes perform better when the reservoir wears a sweat band? Because that's not enhancing anything unless you want to always be ready to kick it seventies style if you happen to be riding along and a pick up basketball game breaks out.
It saves you from seeing the fluid level dropping and all the worry that may cause. You could hardly ride along with your head buried in the sand!
