Does anyone know when the specs will be out for the T120? If they are out and I missed them, sorry...just let me know where I can find them. Am about to give up on a Triumph and by a BMW because am sick of the drama around the launch and giving out all the info.
Anyone ever do a power slide to save your azz? they don't teach that in classes. If you cant lock the rear wheel you cant do that ether. Riding dirt bikes can teach you more then a lot of schools can.
I use the brakes mainly for setting up for a curve not much in the curve. You know your t the limit your tire will hold when both tires slide just a little a spin coming off is not a bad thing ether.
Why not in cars that are far more likely to be driven in snow?
Audi did a study when many of their ABS equipped vehicles were involved in minor fender benders during winter, and found that the ABS became confused when snow, or gravel, would build up in front of locked front wheels, resulting in braking distances increased beyond what a normal non-ABS equipped car with a normal driver would experience.
I imagine the disable feature on the Thrux's was for Vintage/Club Racing where ABS may be banned.
Don't know about Audi but our ABS disengaged at 2 1/2 MPH precisely to ALLOW snow to pile up in front of the locked wheel, giving the shortest braking distance. Maybe you got that flipped?
Can't speak for Thruxton Cup rules, etc. but allowing the ABS to be disengaged manually on start-up is probably more for rider preference. Only guessing. Nothing new about this option either.
Perhaps. The study was done, and released, back in the 90's IIRC, and you know what they say about oldsters.
But, I do remember that those early-generation Bosch ABS systems did not take too well to low-speed situations on snow or gravel. Personally, I have always thought that bikes were one of the areas that could really utilize ABS since there is always the danger of the bike "stepping out" if the rider misapplied the brakes. An old mate had one of the early K75's that came with ABS and he thought it saved him several times. My only experience with an ABS equipped bike is my test ride of a ST, but due to it not being mine, thought it unwise to get myself into any situation where I might have to activate it. Having learned to ride in the 50's, when brakes were particularly nasty things in the best of times, I learned to manage my speed using the throttle and gearbox, and still ride in that manner - use the gearbox to slow down, the brakes are for stopping.
That's a different bike entirely. This is a T120 specs thread so I don't follow your point about the Speedmaster or America. I get that your disappointed about the new 1200cc motor and wished it was tuned for higher rpm and more hp. Guess what? That's ok. There is a wide variety of riding styles, tastes, etc. I do believe it is more fun to ride a slow bike quickly than it is to ride a fast bike slowly.
Saw the new bikes at motorcycle show this weekend. They are awesome. I expected Street Twin to look like a cheap toyish version, but it was as nice as the other models.
I had one of the first BMWs that had ABS. I felt it was just wasted weight.
It's a shame that some of the technology used as a substitute for talent.
I watched my neighbor, who's very big on all the gizmos, come very close to dropping his $25,000 BMW under a stoplight. The talent lost on relying on external aids almost got him that day.
How on earth did any "gizmo" contribute to him doing that (or "nearly" doing that)?
If this story is indeed true I suspect the major contributing factor was stupidity, I don't think any current technology can offset that.
lower priced bikes like our bonnies will get lesser electronic controls that meet euro requirements but surely will not be as good as costlier more sophisticated sport bike electronics
Electronics are the cheapest part of the bike, after R&D is paid for. So I suspect they will be the first to trickle down from supersports to entry level.
Also, there's liability question. Manufacturers can and will be sued for not offering all the available safety features on their products.
It sounds like the DTV system Suzuki used from over 10 years ago IIRC, meant to give characteristics similar to CV cards (where you also don't control throttle opening) this is NOT the system employed on modern bikes but on tear systems you also lose control of the system when the brain believes your inputs are inappropriate.
XSR900 is a pretty rad bike except cheap plastic on the tank and spaghetti pipes down low. Fit and finish is inferior to Street Triple but better than last gen Twins. The new twins (ST, T120 and Thruxton R) are all super gorgeous. Triumph bikes feel premium compared to Yamaha (except R1 maybe), but XSR900 wins on performance. I might still trade in my Street Triple for XSR900.
Thanks for posting those pics. To me the XSR900 is a watershed bike. 113hp...lighter than a bonnie...but a word about trading your Street Triple for one. The Street Triple is what I consider to be a great motorcycle. A thrill to ride and it also looks nice. But...the Street Triple fits a smaller than 6'er best. Maybe you fit this demo as most do. The XSR900 is a god send for a rider over 6'. In fact, its largely why the bike looks like it does. It has a high seat height and a spacious rider triangle. Super comfy for a guy 6'1" with long legs and arms like me. I couldn't own a Street Triple because I feel too cramped on one...and there are many over 6' that own one...I am just more particular about ergos.
If buying a new bike, it would be the XSR900 in silver...
Worst case 75 crank/65 rwhp. Best hope 90 crank/78 rwhp. Most likely somewhere in between these two. My cynical self says that if Triumph had a really good hp story to tell, it would have been told some time ago.
the problem with many bikes the XSR is seat height!! my 30" inseam is suited to 30" seat height + or - depending on how much suspension sag when i sit on the bike. getting your feet to the ground is paramount to riding safely in most instances IMO
I have written about the parallel universe of likes and dislikes here before. You obviously are average to short in height. The XSR is a god send for guys over 6'. Size of rider is a big determining factor when it comes to choice of seat height, peg position and bar position.
Hole he smokes. I have these drugged out doped up 'runner uppers' coming at me explaining how a throttle blade is the new modern and fuel and ign cut is old tech? I'm saying, what are these people on, let me ask a question so as to have a reality check. It's real simple. If I eliminate 1 of 3 variables, this being the engine, isn't fuel/spark/compression the 3 that keep the engine running? With me so far?
You could run a mechanical valve actuator to set an intervention but you'd sound like a truck slowing down. Also, that mechanical would add weight and dependability as a lets try some other way to intervene electronically. So isn't compression or air as using this to intervene would have someone like me lock the air actuator they use for partial intervention? You whack the throttle open you could wheelie but the subthrottle slows that up before it gives you full throttle farther up the rpm... no some bog induced fantasy action.
Only two things left to stall power is fuel or spark. Now do you agree nothing has changed at the two basic intervention points are curve and milliamp intervention, not a bag of wind you blow in worth of fallacy. LOL
Once again. Alex, I'll take $300 for, "2 ways to kill the engine and still keep it running."
maybe LSD...lol.
In case anybody is trying to decipher this gibberish...I believe its an obtuse reference to engine braking...again with a serious drug deficit.:BigEyes
OG chop that else is out get the Hubbish. Bing so that else to that else it's a passing. My of it's that else that's a.
But of it runningo. Using grade for me writing. My of that fast in college. I gotta A in creative writing, if not undern day off ling to the sub and we've who give been that failed creativen this day and my ling AIR or 14.7 in milliseconds?
Keep it out gettingo that's a.
But getting, if not air is a passing to to the main milliseconds?
Keep guessing so togetting so then that else.
Well, this thread is reduced to bickering about nothing. I deleted the worst of it, but I don't see any future for the thread except for more of the same, so closed it is.
