My MLB tour (photos)

Over the last 11 days I rode my bonnie more than 2800 miles to see games at 8 baseball stadiums. I rode solo, but I did meet up with friends in almost every city. In addition to the games I took a tour of 2 stadiums and the baseball HOF.

Packing for the trip:

The first day I drove 5.5 hours in thunderstoms and rain. By the time I decided to stop I was drenched:

Here is me at Wrigley:

I decided to stop when I saw a perfect photo opp. This was not planned:

Cool! Can't wait to see the rest. What a great idea for a trip.

All right, Russ! Sounds great, a long ride with a purpose. How many miles did you usually put on each day? I'm curious because I recently found that after 3 to 4 hundred miles it becomes quite a chore.

Thumbs up I saw you!

Dude, I saw you on Friday the 10th when you were cruising across southern PA on Hwy 30 toward Gettysburg. I recognize your Detroit Tigers flag. I was wondering what was up with that! You did get drenched, too. At the time I saw you I was driving my daughter and some of her friends home from a camping trip. They were miserable from being pounded by rain.

Good trip, man!!

I was wondering if I was going to hear a comment from someone that spotted me. Cool! Highway 30 has some nice curves.

I tried to limit myself to 5 hours per day. The last day was the longest - I rode for 13 hours with a 45 min break for lunch. That was a painful ride, but I wanted to get home.

Triumph At Wrigley Field

Nice pic in front of Wrigley Field.

I was in Chicago for a conference in '05 when the White Sox were hot and in the playoffs. I had a choice between seeing them play, or seeing the Cubs going through the motions at Wrigley Field. I chose to go to Wrigley to see the Cubs. I'd never been to Wrigley Field, and I heard they were going to remodel it, so I went to see the field as much as to enjoy a game of baseball. It was a great experience - manual scoreboard, loyal fans, beer, hot dogs and peanuts. Plus the rooftop bleachers across the street (which I hear will lose their view after the remodel). It felt like "old baseball" to me.

I hear that. I was in Chicago for a conference years ago too and went for a run along the lakefront, got as far north as Addison and a guy was trying to park a line of cars and I asked what was going on he said Cubs game. I did a U-turn and headed back to the hotel. That must have been my 10k PR, we'll never know. Changed, no shower and Concierge told me the Red line drops you off at Wrigley. Made it to the game at the bottom of the 2nd. McGuire of StL did hit a homer, it was the year after he broke Maris's record. Sosa got a hit but didn't score. But it was the experience of being at Wrigley. Incredible. The way baseball should be played. I've been to 5 Cubs games since and it never gets old. Nice thing about being an AL fan, doesn't keep you from having a favorite NL team.

You didn't hear a voice, by any chance, saying, "If you build it, he will come" before you started your trek, did you?

Seems to me, your next destination might be:

Congrats on your solo trip that shows serious (base)balls on your part.
