You folks need to get out more
Inserting Images has become something of a multi-faceted subject.
In the previous TriumphRat.Net, there were many complaints about the image insertion process, but didn't stop users from embedding images into posts anyway. It never became a significant issue, but from a administrator perspective I was faced with many issues. This was a subject of much testing an thought before the current site was rolled out.
- In the old TriumphRat.Net, users couldn't actually upload an image into a post. Today users can.
- In the old TriumphRat.Net, users could insert HTML code representing an image. Today no HTML code is allowed.
Addressing the second issue first. Today, the

image allows any user to insert any image that resides on a server somewhere. This includes images in either the TriumphRat.Net Photo Gallery or the TriumphRat.Net Members Album. The Members Album however now provides BBCode for users to copy and past directly into forum posts when they want to display an image that is in the Member Albums. Regardless if you click the icon, or copy the code from the Member Albums, the image insertion is in BBCode format for images.
Regarding direct attachment uploads. The challenge for me is storage capacity. Generally speaking, few TriumphRat.Net users understand implications of allowing post attachments. If I did implement it years ago storage requirements would have been exponentially greater than it is today. This issue was one of the "drivers" for doing the conversion. I wanted better flexibility and control on what was allowed, so users wouldn't upload massive images. In today's world of broadband connectivity and inexpensive imaging, storage becomes a greater factor. So if you want to use this feature the current image filesize permissions are:
- Gif Images are limited to 20k
- Jpeg/Jpg Imges are limited to 100k
There are also other file types with their respective size limitations. If you have an image within these parameters, it is 99.9% likely that it will be sized appropriately and be easy for other users to see.
If the image is larger, then it is best to upload it into the
Members Album or your favorite image hosting service, and then use the external image insertion icon

, In addition to just "being better" the new Members Album manages image file sizes more efficiently.
Hope this helps, if you want to learn about how much time I spend managing storage just look me up
