Another Tire (Tyre) Thread

I'm going to get a new rear for my Thrux in a couple of days. I've read the threads on the Batalax saying it wore quickly. Which one were people referring to? The BT021 or the BT014?

From the BT021 description: "Rear tire is Dual Tread Compound with Cap Base Construction providing mileage from center compound and grip from shoulder compound, while enhancing tread stiffness for better grip, shock absorption and all-weather performance."

I'm happy with the stock Metzler but the road I commute on is brushed concrete highway and it ate up my Metz pretty quickly. I was trying to find something that would still grip in the twisties but give me a longer life on the commute.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm not sure what is OEM on the Thrux other than what you already have. OEM on the Bonnie is either a Metz or a Battlax BT-45.

Mine came with the BT-45s. I got 9000 miles out of my first rear and 13000 out of the front. Both had at least 2 or 3 thousand miles of tread left on them. I changed the rear because I had a flat and it was getting close to being changed anyway. And the front because it developed some moderate cupping around 12K and I was tired of the vibration, especially on tours. Around locally I didn't care.

So I got good mileage. I put another BT-45 on the rear and my indy mech said that the new Dunlop 404s were wearing well so I put that on the front. The 404s are available for both front and rear.

Several of the hard riding guys here say that they have worn out BT-45s in 4 to 6 thousand miles. So HOW you ride makes a LOT of difference.

I got about 7K out of my stock BT-45's, but the mech said I should have replaced the rear about 2K earlier. I switched to AVON Venoms on the dealer's suggestion. Very sticky tires but I doubt I will get 7K out of them. Like the Preacher says, depends a lot on how you ride. Some Harley guys at work swear by Marathons (Dunlop??) for long wearing tires.

I'm pretty sure I'm sailing through the twisties a bit quicker than they are though.

I got 6000 mi on them so far but ready for a new rear. I was hard on the 1st one, & the front has some life left so I am gonna do a same replacement. I think when they both need replacing @ 12000, I will look @ options? Not a bad tire but as said I dont like the wobbly tracking @ times. Will do for another 6K. Then who knows what will be in favor then?

just passed 10000 miles on my 02, and the 2nd BT45 rear is long overdue for replacement. So they last less than 5000 miles for me, mostly touring.
I replaced the front at around 7000, not worn out but starting to cup. (And wanted to start the riding season with a fresh tire..)

At the end of the week, a GT501 will replace it. (Already got a 501 on the front, it seems to hold up well.
