So here in Colorado, a dealer has 30-days to get a title to someone when they buy a vehicle. Esp if the person pays cash (check, which I did, and was cashed a month ago).
The sale was over 30-days ago. Guy I bought from at the dealer said to call him to remind him to get it through their title clerk the next week. I did. He said he did. Nothing. A few weeks later I call to ask about the title. No one there to talk to me, but say they'll have someone call back. No one ever does.
I call and reach someone a few days later, finally, and ask if they have the title. They said they're sending it out. Nothing. A week more and I call again, again I'm told someone will call back. No one ever does.
Finally call until I get someone and that person seems annoyed I'd even bother them, but says he'll send it out that day. A week later, nothing. Talk to them late last week and surprise, they have the title there (50-miles away). So he says he'll send it out Friday morning. Checked mail today, Tuesday (delivers by 0900), nothing (it's only 50-miles away and same state, so more than a few days for mail to get down the road is suspect).
It's past 30-days. I call. Clerk says they will send it. I say, too late, I'm filing a complaint with the state. They don't give a ****.
Since Colorado charges you $25/month (up to a total of $100) for non-registration and I'll likely be heading overseas again for the winter before I get the title, their actions are not only inconvenient (and illegal according to state law), but will now cost me more than registering the bike (if I COULD register it..., I don't have any papers, so nothing I can do until they decide they don't actually have a title on the bike, or send it to my PO Box where it'll sit for 5-months or more).
I've started a complaint with state revenue/dealer compliance. What else, short of paying an atty to file suit (it's more than small claims)? Posting on forums to warn others of course, but they act like I need to just bend over and take it, now that they have my money and cashed my check. I'm open to anything legal that people can suggest. Seriously pissed.
