Had an old digital dive watch that I had broken one of the band lugs off that I ground all the lugs down and double-sided taped onto my FZR instruments (over the bottom of the tach, that engine doesn't even RUN at anything under about 7K rpm anyway) for a clock some time ago.
So it got me thinking and I found a solar/digital on Amazon for $16 that works perfectly for the task on the Triumph.
Here's pics:
And after mod (grinding off the lugs to make a round watch that (hopefully) no one will want to steal since it can't be used as a watch anymore):
The 3m double-stick tape I use is damn near impossible to get off (thought I'd pull the tach face off the FZR when I had to pull that one off to replace batts) and the little hump in between the speedo and tach on the Thruxton is perfect for the back of the watch to adhere to.
Back in the day I had a Casio G-Shock whose wristband took a dive so I grabbed some Velcro and made a spot for it on the instrument cluster of a Yamaha 750. A little hard to see at night, but otherwise good to go.
I did that when I had a honda magna...except I used ribbon and attached the watch tightly to the handlebar. It didn't come off or move for the 20,000 miles I had the bike.
I set my frist trip meter for fuel when filling up the second trip meter for how far on the ride day was and when riding I set it to the clock, so easy, I don't do track days so no need for a timer, the clock is good when you have a time to meet others on the ride.
TomJ, I've done the same thing to the two of my bikes that don't have a permanent clock display. It's nice to keep you eyes on the road with just a glance to see the time.
