Triumph's Instagram posted a picture of David Beckham posing with a new twin for what seems to be a short film by Belstaf. The bike looks ready to go although I would guess the tank is dressed up for the film with a simple painted logo. The rear fender is gone and the pipes are wrapped too. It looks great, and I'm really excited to see more details of the bike in the coming months. I can't figure out how to post a photo from my phone on this new fangled site, so here's a link:

Also, if you follow that link over to Belstaff's Instagram, there is a really short trailer that has a clip of someone riding a bike that would appear to be the new twin-it sounds like a parallel rig anyway. Sounds great

I should say, I am not knocking Triumph and their Twins program(s). I absolutely LOVE my Thruxton and I'd much rather toss my leg over it then any other bike I've owned. I'm sure the new bikes, when they arrive on the scene, will be great and I'd be excited to see Triumph sell something with an "R" treatment in this line... Ohlins shocks, USD forks, all those farkles that I'd want to put on my Thruxton but can't justify the money frankly.

At the end of the day these are 'classic' style bikes and they do things differently than say a sport bike. It doesn't make them less. I'm sure I'll seriously look at these bikes when they're available too. I took measurements and I can fit six bikes in the garage bay that I keep the bikes in. So since I'm down to two at the moment, there's definitely room for more!

I posted about this new bike on the Facebook page saying

'.... Yes the bike is clearly a water cooled Bonne, a bike which will be announced at some stage soon, but then is the bike which features in the Belstaff short movie a Triumph built custom or the new water cooled Triumph Twin as it will appear in the showroom.
If its the real deal, why show it now?... perhaps its like the Ford Mondeo in Casino Royale a car which hadn't been released at the time of the movies release and was a good bit of product placement.

Perhaps the bike is an attempt at miss direction, meaning when the real bike is shown the press go crazy as its not the bike they expected. What ever it is, its sure to get plenty of attention as will the new Triumph Twins when they are released..... only time will tell'

Im off to EICMA in November, though not on press day to get a good look at these bikes first hand.

I agree. Triumph created the modern retro market with the Bonnevillle. They are not going to let the BMW R nine T and Norton steal it from them. Honda could have made an effort with the CB1100 but it doesn't seem to be that is the direction they want to go.

Car comparison: If the Tesla in "Insane" mode can outrun a Corvette, why aren't there dedicatede Tesla race series? Why don't you see the Tesla in a LeMans race?

Answer: Just because a few performance figures match doesn't mean they perform the same. I suspect the Triple will always out corner the Bonnie with it's superior chassis. They aren't gutting their own sales, and likely will make more on the "Street Tracker" for the price premium over the similarly equipped Triple.

The things is, though, Triumph never sold the Bonnies on their performance. It was always looks, nostalgia, etc. If they're going to sell the new Bonnies on performance, it's going to be hard to sell a 550 lb, 90 hp performance bike for the same price as a 400 lb, 107 hp bike. Those few matching performance figures are often what drive decisions and if you're looking for performance, you're not going to choose the heavier, slower bike.

@Forchetto

"Including this clearer picture of the new twin and him looking windswept and interesting"

Hahaha.

A few observations:
-Note the bungs on the seat for a cowl
-I feel like the front fender bracket and headlight ears should be black
-The headlight ears appear to be mounted on the lower triple???
-Looks like Pirelli Diablo's?
-Is that the key popping out below the gauges?
-Beckham sure is a panty melter?

Nice catch on the key location. Now THAT'S an upgrade (or overdue correction).

Per the fender brackets and headlight ears, it looks to me like they've borrowed some of the sculpting cues from the Speed and Street Triples. It could be that Triumph is trying to build a subtle bridge between they're sport line and classics; albeit a subtle one.

The Beckham bike is almost certainly a one off for publicity purposes.
Since the front end is probably straight from the Street or Speed triple, it will probably inherit some of the same hardware, to reduce cost. No reason to “redesign the wheel”
The new suspension, twin disks, and liquid cooling will blur the line between it and the 865. However, these new components will not in anyway improve performance to the level of Triumphs modern line of Triples. Triumph would never risk cannibalizing their existing line of triples by introducing a competitive twin model.
This is an improved/uprated 865, but with similar frame geometry, mass centralization, etc. In other words, a classic chassis, with perhaps a slight improvement in power to weight ratio.
If you are inclined to be attracted to classic design, and can get beyond the radiator, this new bike may be of interest to you. If you are interested in absolute performance, you’ll look elsewhere.

no they will never handle with the 675 and wont be as quick stock as a 675.triumph cant build the 1100 to pass epa rules and make it fast enough to out drag race a 675.
What you need to look at is hp # from triumph are at the crank. A 90 hp motor only makes about 77 on the rear wheel on a dyno. A 107 hp motor only makes about 94 on the rear wheel on a dyno. You need 100 hp+ on the rear wheel to out drag race a 675 with a bonnie.
But there is nothing better then seeing the look in a kid on a sport bikes eyes when a bonnie pulls him from a stop light.

I like the new tank style, looks like it would hold more gas. I'm wondering if that tank will fit on these older bikes? Last long trip gave me fits with gas stops. I need more range living out west, there are many situations out west that can get you into trouble with these smaller tank capacities - once you start touring on these bikes.
