I just saw the Wild Hogs movie (I guess it's been around a while but I don't get out much). We were returning with our Bonnie on the ferry from Spain so it seemed quite appropriate.

Very silly ending but I thought the "mid-life crisis" bits hit some truth buttons.

Some of the scenery looked like Spain as well. A lot of us over here dream of riding across the USA but there's no bike ferry. (I guess you could book a suite on the Queen Mary) Luckily Spain is fantastic as well.

Cheers

It might have been Spain for all anyone knows. :-D

The geography in the film left something to be desired. Last time I heard, it was neither necessary nor practical to ride through the hills of northern Alabama or across a gorge in Colorado to get from Indiana to the Missouri state line.

The photography was very commendable, however. Another thing that impressed me was that (at least for non-stunt shots) all four stars actually rode, and were reasonably competent. That's a far cry from The Wild One, where Brando did most of his "riding" in front of a background projection plate, and in the few seconds of footage where it was actually him on a moving bike, he did not look the least bit comfortable with the whole idea.

I watched an odd DVD last night called... The Euroshock Collection: Psychomania (1971)
Dudes and chicks on Triumphs and a BSA terrorize the citizens. They then kill themselves (and their bikes) and come back as zombies (with the same bikes) to reek even further hooliganisims on the countryside.
Lots of bike action, leather, and cool "Shaft-like" wah-wah guitar riffs.
Lots of violence without one drop of blood shown.
Fun for the whole family!

(note from a film student: ) The Brando rear-projection thing was due to technical/budget limitations, not his riding skills.

(opinion from a film student: ) Overall, the movie was pretty bad...

That might be the official line  but as a sometime filmmaker myself, I wouldn't invoke technical reasons (a rear projection shot invariably looked crummy until at least the mid-1960s, when MGM pretty much perfected the process at their studios in the UK; and then a decade letter it became irrelevant anyway). A handheld shakeycam sequence shot from the back of a moving station wagon would've looked a lot more believable, and would've fit the rebel motif better too.

But it's mainly as a rider that I don't buy it. In the few seconds where it clearly was Brando on a moving motorcycle, he did not look the least bit happy about being there or confident in what he was doing--not nearly as devil-may-care as the role called for in such scenes.

Lee Marvin, on the other hand, seemed very much at home on his mount.

That one I have no argument with whatsoever. :-D

The last group ride I went on was a couple days after seeing the "Wild Hogs" movie. One of my riding buddies suffered a bike break down (dead battery) After a push start he and I left the group to try and limp his bike home under its own power. We did not make it. However, after leaving the group a black bird commited suicide , Kamakazi style, by diving straight into his helmet. A few miles later black smoke rolled out of both pipes and he pulled over. After a quick once over he began pushing the bike to a pull out on the side of the road, while I was slowly riding just behind and out to his side to "block" or warn traffic. Once the traffic had passed I sped ahead then jogged back to help him push. As I passed him I yelled "Wild Hogs baby"!!!

The hour we sat waiting for a trailer was spent discussing the movie, women, and other things that just pop up.

I liked the movie, but really loved the parallel between the two scenes in the movie and what happened to us.
