Heading to work this morning I find myself cruising down a small one lane road through this industrial area, behind a semi and a couple vans. The road births a second lane and the two vans begin weaving a little, as if to say "we both want this lane, but we can't decide who's going to get into it first." The one in the rear makes his move... seeing that the van behind the semi seems relatively content where he is, I pull in behind the van in the right lane. I accelerate enough to get along side the van in the left lane to ensure that he knows I'm there... just then the road bends, and the van in front of me breaks heavily (I think he was under the impression that the semi was creeping into his lane). By that point I'm probably no more than 15ft back, so I hit the breaks before I hit the back end of this van.

The bike when out to the right, I went down to the left, and together we slid a good 20ft on the pavement. I immediately popped up off the ground and stumbled off the road. As I hit the grass, I began to become very aware of the parts of my body that had hit the ground. Naturally, my khaki pants didn't hold up too well protecting the knee that hit the ground first, but my helmet and the armor in my jacket did their job.

After a couple people rolled by to ask if they should call 911, a guy in an Xterra stopped and helped me get the bike up and off the road (turns out he rides, himself... go figure).

Looking the bike over, I have to say it could have been worse. Obviously most everything on the left side of the bike is either bent, scraped up, or sheered off.

But, I'm not dead!

...and now I gotta go to work.

list your damaged parts, forum members like to help out with damaged parts.

I have a shifter and probably bar end caps, and stock handlebars if yours are bent.

Don't you know those bikes are dangerous? hehe

Glad to hear you are OK, that is all that matters. Like Sweat said, list your parts, I know I have a slew of items that can help you out. I think that between all of us we can get your bike rebuilt.

Mirrors
Blinkers
Silencers
Foot pegs with stantions
handlebars
rims
Tail light assembly
Clutch and brake levers

Pale-

Glad you're okay; heal soon and well.

I can't resist noting the irony regarding your recent topic of people telling riders how dangerous motorcycles are... you probably should have never started that thread. Bad kharma.

Glad to hear you're alright. Don't let your coworkers hear about this or you'll get "the lecture" everyday for sure. :-D

Glad to hear you're ok PaleForce. I had a similar close call last week....fortunately, I was able to recover before hitting the pavement. (That rear brake sure locks up easily!)

Again, glad you're alright.
