Well the 1100 kit should be ready by Friday, I have all the components to fit it, larger jets for the carbs etc etc.

But (theres always a but) I am going to the Isle of Man "TT" for two weeks, 9 yes nine days later. I will have no tools, (only camping have to carry everything) no back up, the question is

Do I fit the big bore kit or wait until I get home!

If I fit it and every is fine - Brilliant and a project started last August comes to fruition.

If I fit it and there's is only a minor problem - Wrecked holiday and I'm stuffed

If I don't fit it - customised bike with minimal performance.

I keep asking myself what could go wrong, - clutch slip, pistons seize up, wrong carburation, burn out valves.

Decisions, decisions.

Your input welcome.

Man, I'm all for the rip it open, all out thrash gonzo wrenching at the last minute, but something always goes wrong. Maybe you've heard of Murphy the optimist.

As much as I hate to say it...do it when you get home.

I’m sure it is a tuff decision.
9 days is not a lot of time to work out all the kinks.
I know the anticipation of 1100 cc is killing you.
BUT!!! It sure would suck if there is a minor problem
That sets you back a couple of weeks because you have
to wait for some part to come in.

And as swaet mentioned Murphy’s law.
Besides that little 790cc will get you there just as quick
As 1100 cc will.
And you will know the 790 cc will get you there.

I guess you got to ask your self, just how bumbed up
You will be if you miss your trip???????????

I think I would wait that way you won’t be rushed to finish
A job that shouldn’t be rushed.

I am rapidly coming to the conclusion, as this is probably the last time I can go to the TT for 10 years, don't mess with the bike before I go, if I do it and it goes wrong and I***** me holiday up, I will be pissed

I think that would be a wise decision.
Then you will still have some thing to look forward to when
you get back.
Then you can do the job right by taking your time.
Good luck and have fun on your trip.

Wise decision Phil...it's got to be driving you mad having all the pieces in hand and not finalizing the build....

You know the right thing to do is wait....be patient.

She is one special girl. Give her your undivided attention when you give her that makeover and you'll have a friend for life. Truly a concept custom that Triumph needs to sit up and take notice of.

Very sound advice... I'll think you'll enjoy the trip much more without constant attention to a newly put together engine with no time to work out jetting and eventual bugs/snags that might show up

Pardner, that is the finest looking Hinkley Bonneville I have seen to date. Triumph had better stand up and take notice of her! Don't mess with it. That 790 has plenty of performance to see you through the Isle of Mann. When you get home and do the conversion, you will think of nothing else but of going there next year with your well tuned 1100 custom Bonneville! Congratulations on a most well thought out and beautiful modified stock conversion!
