A few of weeks ago I was fiddling around with some electrical ideas with the bonnie when I was interrupted with a phone call. I was just wrapping things up and had just put the seat back on when it happened. An hour or so later I finished up the call, put my gear on, and went for a nice little ride.

It wasn't until a few days later that I realized I was still riding around without my seat bolts. Yikes!

Now, before I start to take anything apart on the bike, I slip a loop of safety-orange plastic ribbon over the mirror as a reminder to do a final "pre-flight" check in case I am interrupted or otherwise being an idiot.

I'm probably the only one that needs to do something like this, but just in case I'm not...

The only one with memory issues re bikes? I don't think so.

I slip a tennis ball or pop can between the handlebar and the front brake lever, and duct tape it in place, when I have the front wheel pulled, just so I, or anyone else, doesn't give the handle a squeeze and blow the pistons out ot the caliper.

I like you idea, however. It does force you to rethink everything you've done to the bike (and also forces to to check if in doubt) everything you've touched.

Good idea.

Bob

The orange tape is an especially good idea for you, in that it totally clashes with everything associated with your bike and garage.
Good tip!

I can relate to this lapse in concentration.

Just this afternoon I checked the carb balance, disconnected the hoses, put the tools away. and about to switch the lights off in the garage when lo and behold!!
The rubber vacuum caps are sitting there staring back at me waiting to go back on.

The next ride could have been 'interesting'.

My bonehead move... after pulling the carbs to rejet. Put everything back on and re-tightened; carbs, tank, seat, battery box etc. Connected all the cables, hoses. Checked and double checked. Picked up all my tools, put my helmet on... pulled away and drove right over my cell phone (forgot it had slipped out of my shirt pocket.) :hammer:

I always turn the gas to off when parking the bike for the night, but more often than not forget to turn in back on before heading out in the morning. So have a tag I hang from the throttle grip to remind me.

I lost my seat bolts two months ago. Guess they're out on the road somewhere. Don't miss 'em much. Sure is easy to get under the seat when I need to.

Last night I met an older gentlemen who was crying on the sidewalk. I asked him why and he said "I'm married to a 28yr old nymphomanic". I told him that he didn't need to cry because there's a little blue pill that would help him in that dept. But this only made him fall to his knees and cry harder.

Finally he staggered to his feet and said, "I've got a pocket full of Viagra, but the problem is I have alzheimers and I've forgotten where I live!"

It could be worse Ridge.....
