So I've got this friend, right? ...The guy's never been on a bike in his life, but he tells me today that ever since I got my bonnie a couple months back, he's had this growing infatuation with motorbikes (Triumphs, in particular... which is probably my fault). Knowing how much joy riding brings me, naturally I want my friend(s) to experience that too... but here's the rub... do I really want to do the whole "hey fella, lets head over to this vacant parking lot and I'll teach you to ride" thing with my bonnie? I wanna help a brother out... but the thought of him laying it down, even at like 3 mph, is freakin' terrifying.

So, has anyone else put their bikes on the line for the sake of exposing their friends to the gloriousness that is the motorcycle?

I read something once that indicated learning from a friend is one of the worst ways to get into riding. No offense, but unless you have some instruction background, it might not be a good idea. I think MSF courses are fantastic, personally. Once he passes that, THEN let him dump your bike. :hammer:

keep your friend at least 3' away from your bonnie at all times. I mean, don't even let him sit on it.

We all know it doesn't stop there. I agree, MSF or get his own freakin bike.

I gave out my SV to a new rider once or twice. I would never do it with my Thruxton though. I was even a little nervous lending it to my best friend of 20+ years, who's put at least twice as many miles on motorcycles as have I.

Let your friend take the MSF class. They have little 250 cruisers that are DESIGNED for low-speed falls by complete noobs.

Ooh ooh, had to add to this. Yesterday I'm working on my bike when the neighbor down the street, kind of a weird kid, who recently bought himself a Hyosung, passed by on his bike. To my chagrin, he turned around and came back and we talked for a while. His bike has less than 2,000 miles on it, is less than three months old, was bought new, and is a WRECK. Apparently he's dropped it at least three times, breaking off various fairing bits, the turn signals, a clip-on (!), levers, etc. Additionally, due to his own fault, he'd had to remove the key ignition, and the speedo/guage set-up had re-set itself. This bike was a wreck! He intends to ride it until he's paid it off and then sell it for $2,000 to buy himself a Harley. I was looking at it and thinking "Well, he'll be lucky if it fetches $500, and who knows what further torture he'll rack up on it by the time he tries to sell it?" Think of your Bonnie Black like that.

PaleForce, There are a lot of MSF BRC schools in Houston.

I have friends at most of them, so I can't single one out.

I sure that your local dealer can put them in touch

with a good school.
