My saddlebags seem to hang too low to the hot exhaust pipes and have a tendency to flap about and into the tires. I just bought the Renntec Grab Rail and Rack, which I Like a lot, but now I can't use the Luggage Brackets from New Bonneville.

As a last resort I may have to buy the Triumph Saddlebags/Panniers($$$) just for their brackets but I really don't want to.

Does anyone have an alternative idea? Surely, there must be a saddlebag bracket out there among all the aftermarket vendors.

I appreciate your advice, really, but I just said I can't use the New Bonneville brackets (which I have, already) becase of the Renntec Grab Rail and Rack. They are not compatible.

Anyone make their own luggage brackets?

There are a couple of good threads on the subject under "Brass" in the "Frame & Seat" section of the Twin Mod Links page - HERE.

What kind of bags and exhaust do you have? I just recently got the Cortech Sport bags and so far I don't think I need brackets. They are the throw over type and they seem to ride ok, and price was only $130.00. But who knows with time what they may do.

Thanks Keef, I'll be sure to go there.

I have Sprint exhausts and they're slightly upswept like yours, Loxpump. Those bags you have look good. At $130 they're better than buying some $170 shiney brackets.

They are a great bargain compared to others I've seen. I especially like the fact that they are throw over type. I didn't want something that was a permanent fixture, and really didn't want to bolt on rails that would stand out when I did have the bags off. These are rated for 15 lb. max weight each, which doesn't sound like a lot, but that is two gallons of milk on each side. Mainly things that you need on a day ride, or perhaps an overnight trip.

Eventually I'm probably going to try to make something similar to what Gene-O did in the wiki, but in the mean time I made something much simpler that still seems to function okay for me. My bags aren't slanted so the front is well supported by the shocks already. For the rear I just got a piece of long flat steel from Home Depot, cut it down to 30", then put two bends in it. I drilled two holes and attached it using the same screws that hold the rear fender to the frame.

It seems to work fairly well, it might bend if I really loaded the saddlebags down but I don't think I'd ever put more than a few pounds in them.

Here are a few pics. Like I said, nothing fancy but it seems to be functional. When I get my rentec rack I'll probably try to make something fancier that works with it.
