I did some major work on my bike this weekend: Removed the air-box, added Sprint/Burgess/EMGO mufflers and re-jetted (140 mains, 42 pilots, 1 shim on the needles and 3 turns of the pilot mixture.)

...and I have no real idea of what signs or what results to look for.

How do I follow-up? I'm actually mechanically inclined but I am relatively new to motorcycles.

-I'm suppose to look at the spark plugs for signs of leanness or richness, right?

-I adjusted the idle mixture screw with the D-tool 3 times, is that too much or too little?

-What should I be listening for?

-What's the bike suppose to feel like?

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

Bike should feel stronger, rev more freely, and be noticeably louder. Sure, pull the plugs and look at em in a few weeks, but they should be fine. I assume that you mean that the idle mixture screw is 3 turns out. On my bike, that was way too rich, but others have found differently.

I think what you are supposed to do now is go out and ride.

Yup, go for a ride. The bike will let you know if there is a problem.

Do yourself a huge favor and put the bike on a dyno...it wont cost you much and you can see exactly where you need to make changes.

Hey, I'm in the same boat brownbomber. Just cut up the airbox and put K&N's on, then had the carbs tuned and sync'd. 130 mains and 42 pilots with reverse cone Staintunes. I'm going to run the hell out of it for a few weeks and then take it from there. What a difference these mods make, eh?

Why? Too many H-D's.

"Take it for a ride"

Of course!

....jeez, sometimes I'm so dense. Though i've started it and test rode it, I haven't actually given it a good ride. I guess you guys are right about just taking a wait and see approach.

Sidenote--- "BrownBomber" was my nickname from my coach in High School Football...@ almost 300lbs, I would run and then leap for the QB...then I would do my ChiChi Rodriguez (same last name) impression after I tackled him...That is all.

Does anyone have pics of what the plugs should look like. I pulled mine last night. Tried to take a pic but the camera wasn't cooperating. I have NGK Iridium plugs and they've been in for only 500 miles of so and they looked new! The white insulator was still white. Am I running too lean or is it still too early to tell and I need more miles?

#1. Plug chops don't work as well with unleaded fuel as people say they do

#2. your plugs should be khaki in color, white = lean

#3. 130 mains are probably too small. I'd jump to 140s right away, I'm running 155s.
