I'm considering doing the flat black paint treatment to my exhaust headers, and would like to use a reverse header in the same color, but with polished aluminum (chrome?) end caps.

Couple of questions for you exhaust gurus.

1. Is D&D the only game in town for this style muffler? I like the look but want something with only slightly more volume than the TORs I'm currently running.

2. Do the aftermarket mufflers use the Triumph muffler mounts, ie, do I remove the mounts from the TORs and install them on the aftermarket mufflers? It's been over year since I installed the TORs, and I think I recall removing the mounts from the factory pipes and bolting them onto the TORs.

all the aftermarket exhausts I have heard were much louder than TORs, so finding one only a little louder might be tough.
Predators come as reverse megs, emgos make them, staintunes also. there are others a s well

I just loves me Staintunes! Bike came with them but I'd buy them just for the coolest name in pipes.

voila

Bob,

If you go to the D&D website, they appear to be making better baffles for their pipes. Also Thunder City makes baffles that fit D&D's. one more thing. I was told by Fattratt that if you take out the stock D&D baffles, and cut off their packing, and repack with a good insulation hold it on to the baffles with wire, plus pack inside of the cans themselves that the pipes become alot quieter.

not to hijack this thread b/c I'm interested in the flat black treatment as well, but does anyone have any tips on how to get the end cap off of the D&D's? After taking the allen screws out and trying just about everything to get the ends loose I still haven't been able to.

Tricks to these puppies??

Craig,

I used a medium sized flat screwdriver and put it into the seams between the end cap and the can. I worked it slowly until I was able to move the caps with my hand and then they came off fairly easy. Just do it slowly so as not to scratch your chrome.

Thanks Quentin good idea, I'll try the screwdriver trick with some thin tape around it to avoid scratching.

cheers

Another nod to Staintunes. They are NOT loud pipes (until you get on them).

As far as I know they only come in the polished finish however.
